To my hometown best friends,
I want to say thank you to the ones that are family and always will be. The ones when I come back from college and my parents ask when you’ll be back too. Thanks for answering the constant buzzing group text messages and late night calls, whenever there’s something going on. I know only you will understand because you know everything and anything about me. From boyfriend problems or lack thereof to family problems to complaining how much we hate our town but also how badly we can’t wait to be back in it together. To the friends who I call late night with my silly unanswerable questions.
My friends who are always my first hellos when I’m back from college and my last goodbyes before we all return back. We’ve experienced awkward middle school days to graduating high school together and all that in between. If I'm being honest I could not have done it without you all by my side. People always say when you leave for college you lose touch with even your closest of friends. But I’m extremely happy to say that we have defied those odds.
Yes, we have all changed, have all made new friends and have new lives but the bond we formed here is one that clearly cannot be broken. Not seeing each other hasn’t changed us one bit because even though we are all miles away, we are all still only a phone call or a text away. Whenever I’m having a bad day and the group texts pop up it makes me feel like I’m home, not like we are miles away; but all just sitting in our own houses within five minutes of each other. Though we are so far our friendship has surpassed every obstacle thrown at us, even miles apart we still conquer them together. The time we spend apart makes our time together that much sweeter. When we are all together its like we’ve never left, because the bond we have has shown time and time again it cannot be broken. So, I thank you, thank you for showing me the true meaning of friendship.
Webster’s dictionary defines friendship as the emotions or conduct of friends; the state of being friends.
But friendship, its so much more than that, it's being there on the good days and bringing you ice cream on your worst, its telling you you’re wrong when you clearly are but don’t believe it yourself. Friends look out for you and have your back and I’m lucky my best friends do exactly that. You are the people that helped build me into the person I am today, the people who will stand by my side when I get married. You are part of my heart. And although I never say it I wouldn’t be half the person I was without you by my side. So to my hometown friends, thank you for being my ride or dies. Love you with my whole heart!
