When people ask you about your home most of you would associate the term with a place, town, certain house and other terms of the like. Have you ever thought of thinking about home differently? For me, home is a person and not a place where I live. It is not so much a building, or a room, or a manmade structure. To me, it carries significance not so much in an inanimate object, but in a relationship with a person.
As a Chrisitan, the most important relationship that I will ever have is the one I have with Jesus. He is the one who is preparing the real home up in Heaven. He is the one who breathed life into me and gave me an opportunity to find a home in him. Whenever I think of home, I think of a place where I go to find rest and to recharge. A place where I can relax, relieve any stresses and worries of the day, and just be. As I have grown older and experienced more of life, I have realized that Jesus is the provider of this rest and a resource of relief.
For instance, in Psalm 5:22 it says, "Cast your burden upon the LORD and He will sustain you; He will never allow the righteous to be shaken."
This is a reminder to me that Jesus is the giver and gracious provider of rest and the sustainer of us when we may feel weary. He holds us and keeps us safe like a house that serves as a shelter.
In addition, in 1 Peter 5:7 it says, "Cast all your anxiety on Him, because He cares for you."
Home for me has always been a place of refuge where I can get away from the problems of my day. 1 Peter 5:7 is a verse I constantly need to read to myself. Jesus cares so much about us. We may not see our worthiness, but Jesus loves us regardless of our imperfections and flaws. He wants to know about our day. He wants to be a source of refuge in our lives. He wants us to feel comfortable enough to share whatever might be bothering us or giving us stress or anxiety.
For any home to be stable it must have a solid and strong foundation. Jesus is this very foundation.
In 1 Corinthians 3:11, it says "For no one can lay a foundation other than the one already laid, which is Jesus Christ."
When building a successful home it is also necessary to have a cornerstone which is a "stone that forms the base of a corner of a building, joining two walls."
In the Bible, Jesus is described as the cornerstone. One instance of this is in Ephesians 2:19-20 which says," So then ye are no more strangers and sojourners, but ye are fellow-citizens with the saints, and of the household of God, being built upon the foundation of the apostles and prophets, Christ Jesus himself being the chief corner stone ".
What I find so beautiful about this passage is that in God's eyes we are not strangers, we are one of His own. God has His own household that if we choose, have the privilege to be a part of. A privilege and honor to be one of his children.
Overall, I know that a house on Earth is always temporary. I never know when I may have to move or when it could be destroyed by natural causes or a fire. The one home that I know is permanently stable and everlasting is in the home I find in Jesus Christ. Wherever I am, I can find "home", because I believe He lives in me.
