It’s fall, and now that it even feels like it, it’s official. But with fall comes one of Americas oldest, and my favorite traditions—Homecoming.
Usually a high school and collegiate tradition, homecoming is all about welcoming back alumni of learning institutions and celebrating that no matter where life takes you, it’s like Hannah Montanna says “you always find your way back home.”
Would you believe that some people think they’re too cool for homecoming? I suppose it starts from some deep-seated hatred for high school and the fact that since you’re now in college, it's blasphemous to even think about stepping foot back on your old stomping grounds (as if you’d even be in college without high school, but I digress).
I would like to point out for those of you that haven’t looked at the 2 words that make up “Homecoming” that the whole point is to travel back to your hometown and gloat at everyone’s life who is more in shambles than yours, pass on your years of wisdom to the newest class of seniors, and lie to your past teachers about your current grades.
What is worse, the feelings students have towards their high school homecoming translate to college. Some people are completely turned off by the fact that colleges have homecomings they don’t even give it a try. Homecoming is literally a week-long party celebrating the fact that you survived four years in this place.
If you’re gutsy enough to travel back home for your high school’s homecoming be sure to bask in the glory of being old and outdated and if your school is fortunate enough to have a strong homecoming presence make sure you make the most of it so one day when you’re the old guy at the tailgate some junior is pouring YOU free shots.
