I miss a lot of things from home, now that I'm back at school. It's hard because you get so used to being home for three weeks, then you have to come back to not having normal things. It's like for a few weeks, you have everything you need and more to survive. Then when you get back you only have a few things you need to thrive on your own.
1. Food.
I really miss the food. Steak, hamburgers, mac n' cheese (made on the stove), and pork tacos. Mmmmm. My parents are both great at cooking and baking. I love how most of our meals are made at home, and I don't feel gross after eating them.
2. Friends.
I caught a glimpse of old times with my friends that are all scattered at different universities over break as well. It was cool being with them, catching up on our lives and hearing their crazy stories from their own college experiences. I also got to catch up with friends that are still in high school, and it was awesome.
3. My car.
Wow, the struggle is so real. I caught a glimpse of my freedom back home, and then I had it taken away from me again as I arrived at school. It's so hard to understand how privileged you are with a car until that car is gone.
4. My bed.
I miss my Queen size bed that is so roomy and all for me. Now I have downgraded to a twin XL bed, and it sucks. There's nothing better than sleeping in your own bed back home. It's so comfy; I never wanted to leave it behind!
5. My shower.
Community bathrooms really gross me out. I just want to take a shower without wanting to throw up everywhere. I love my shower because it's so warm, and it feels like home.
6. My dog.
She's the best dog in the world. Eva the Diva is her name; she is precious and lively, and she loves to play. She watches out for my family and me. I love my doggy; she is the best because she is such a loving dog.
7. My cat.
My cat, Gracie Bell, is the best cat in the world. She is just a typical cat, but I am pretty much the only human being that she likes (well that is, besides my mama). She is super sassy, and she is definitely my spirit animal. I love it when my kitty snuggles up with me and sleeps with me. It makes me upset to think that I cannot bring her to school with me.
8. Working.
I love my job back home. I work at a movie theater, and it is super thrilling. I honestly love the job, not because of the perks of free movies, but I just love the service I am able to provide for those who come to see a movie. I always had a wonderful experience in movie theaters as a kid, and I want to create the same type of environment at the one I work for.
9. My friend's houses.
My friends' houses are my safe place. I go there when I am happy, sad, crying for no reason, or just hungry and broke. I love my friends, and their families all take me in as one of their own. I feel like their houses are my second home. There is nothing more comforting than being able to walk into their houses and immediately feel at home. It is honestly awesome to have friends like the ones I am so fortunate to have in my life.
10. Not having school-related priorities.
Let's be honest: we all hate school-related priorities to some extent. Whether it be the work load or actually attending of classes, school can suck. It can be hard to create a balanced calendar between a social life and school. It is always a shock to be thrown back into reality after being away from school for a while.
11. My family.
My crazy family. I miss everyone. I miss my grandparents, aunt, uncle, cousins, everyone. I guess I missed my immediate family when I was naming off people, but I miss them too! I just loved being home and having the time to spend with my family, because there is nothing more precious than spending time with the ones you love.
Yeah, I miss a lot of things from back home, but it feels great to back. I may have had one or two meltdowns since I've been back at school, but I know that it'll all be okay. Leaving for college feels like a small piece of you is being left behind in your hometown, but you are okay. You get used to the feeling while you're gone from your home, but this is only because you know it'll be better when you are reunited with it all again during the next break.
