As most students have been done with finals and back in their hometowns for a while now, it's time to reflect on the past couple of weeks and the gradual progression of the life of a college student home for the holidays:
When you left campus, you felt melancholy as you said goodbye to your campus, friends, and late-night adventures...
"I'm not going home. Not really."
At the same time, you were excited to be home and not have to worry about academics for a while.
No more papers, homework, tests?
You finally got to reunite with your family after a long couple of months.
And you were reunited with 24/7 access to an abundance of food.
Love is an open door, that is, the door of a fully-stocked refrigerator.
You couldn't contain your excitement for reunions with your squad.
...but you dreaded the inevitability of awkward encounters with old acquaintances.

And then, the boredom began to settle in...
You realized with despair that you can't just walk to your best friend's dorm room at 11 p.m. because s/he's halfway across the country.
You know I'd walk a thousand miles just to see you.
The lack of productivity made you begin to think you should pick up a new hobby.
OK. Underwater basket-weaving it is, then!
Ah! Winter break: where you relish in the wonderful feeling of being home, and for the not-so-wonderful moments, just remember that spring semester is right around the corner.
