Home is where the heart is. We've heard this a thousand times, but when you go to college, college becomes your home. If you think about it, most of your time will be spent at college. You'll only be home for breaks and an occasional weekend. My heart is still at my family's home, but my home is in DeKalb.
At college you make your own rules. No one tells you that you can't go for that midnight pizza run. You can make random plans late at night and just go where you need to go. You don't have to tell anyone where you're going or whom you'll be with. When you go home for breaks, you have to go back to living under your parents' rules.
College is where most of your friends are. I still talk to some of my friends from high school; a couple of them are still my best friends. I left my hometown, and, with that, I also closed some friendships. At school, I made new friends quickly and was able to hang out with them whenever I wanted. When it comes to breaks, however, I miss hanging out with them more than ever.
College schedules, though busy, can be fit to your own personal preferences. Not always, but many times if you don't want an 8 a.m., you can choose a class later in the day so you can sleep in. You can choose which teacher you'd rather have, and you can even work in relaxed classes like yoga. When you're on a break or at home, you may have a job that requires you to wake up early each morning.
I love my family, don't get me wrong. I try to make time for them in my crazy college life. My heart is in Flanagan, but my home is in Dekalb.
