The Holiday Season is Upon Us

Apparently it's the most wonderful time of the year

I don't like to think about Christmas until after November 30th. I hate how the media and stores try to push Christmas as soon as Halloween finishes. Let each month have its moment and don't remind me about the stress that comes with Christmas.

Now that it's December and I finally have picked out my tree today, I am prepared for the onslaught of Christmas that is coming like a tornado. The city is decorated with crowds of excited, stop in the middle of anywhere tourists clashing with the annoyed, will push you out of my way New Yorkers who always have somewhere to be. The radio stations have their Christmas playlist on 24/7 play and I have my IPOD ready to play as an alternative when I've heard "All I Want for Christmas Is You," way too many times in a day.

As a college student, I can't wait for Christmas break, but the road there is a long freezing tired one. We college students have finals, final essays, last minute find a way to not fail this class ideas, and the plans to figure out when and who to buy presents for. Also there's wanting to be on break, but then remembering when you're on break, there's work to save up that pocket money for the next semester and trying to avoid your family from being in your business all the time. The Christmas season is work.

I do like to go down to Rockefeller Center at least once during the holidays though. Even if it is the same decorations usually each year, it's still nostalgic. Plus there's a huge tree that's fun to play with, in figuring out how to take the perfect selfie with it. The Christmas season also makes driving a bit more fun. You get to see how creative neighborhoods get in their decorating or lazy as well. Sorry, but just shinning laser lights on a house is just boring. True decorators put up lights and experience near death on a ladder at least once trying to perfect their designs.

I like decorating my tree as well because you go through the memories of ornaments and which ones were your favorites as a kid. Now it is also a race to who can put their favorites in the best spots on the tree. Move out of the way random football player ornament, Princess Jasmine's Shoe needs to be seen by everybody.

Shopping may be stressful, but I like trying to find the perfect gifts for my family and friends. Sometimes I find the perfect gift for myself as well and that day turns out to be a "Treat Yo Self Day." You do have to love those holiday sales too; they help us broke college students get gifts for our loved ones. However, besides the cute holiday city trips with friends and reminiscing with family, I think my favorite holiday season activity is dressing my cats up in different costumes. Hey, they make great Christmas Cards!

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
