If you have ever felt that there is an owl still flying around with your official letter of acceptance to Hogwarts, now is the time to enroll and take part in shaping what a magical institution at USF might be.
That's right friends! Hogwarts is officially coming to the University of South Florida, courtesy of the Honors College.
As some of the more eager fans of Harry Potter may have already heard, the author of the series, J.K. Rowling used the Pottermore website, "Harry Potter" to surprise us all with another fun fact about the wizarding community: "There are 11 long-established and prestigious wizarding schools
worldwide, all of which are registered with the International
Confederation of Wizards." Maybe we can soon add a 12th to that list!
If you're privy to the curriculum of the Honors College, you may already know that magic has resided at USF for some time. In the form of a three credit hour class that will satisfy one of those pesky required honors courses, students can delve into the world of Harry Potter through the use of the magic that is rhetoric.
Haven't had the opportunity to take the course? Fret not, because for one night only—March 7, beginning at 7 p.m.—honors students are given the opportunity to experience a night as a Hogwarts student.
This will be a bewitching evening filled with potions, dueling, original house fables and more. This will be a night in which we transfigure our
everyday space into a magical institution where we, as witches and
wizards, practice the fine and subtle arts of the (witch)crafting
community. Students will have the opportunity to not only attend modified Hogwarts-inspired courses, but even be sorted into a house of their own.
As students, we are so often trapped in thinking that the only way we can learn and grow academically is by sitting through lecture halls, jotting down the explanations of various equations and speaking up in a discussion or two. What place does something like Harry Potter have in our current system of academics? I challenge you to come and find out.
Make sure you RSVP online through this website.
It's bound to be a magical night.
