In my first article, I mentioned The Underachievers as one of the pioneers of bringing new age concepts into the mainstream rap game. I’m going to go over a couple concepts mentioned in their lyrics including Indigos and The Flower of Life.

Within the past couple of years I’ve seen an uprising of sacred geometry and have seen it on clothes, people’s skin, and in visions. Recently I had a dream where I was flying up towards a full moon and then it turned into a Flower of Life. This was not the first time I’ve seen sacred geometry but I took it as a reminder to keep investigating this phenomenon.

Basically I see the rising appearance of these symbols as an assurance and validation of the interconnection of all things. This goes into the holographic concept of the universe. No matter how many times the hologram gets split, each part still contains the whole. This could explain why some mystics say to look within in order to get an insight into the nature of the universe because the universe is actually within you. This also explains why in religions like Buddhism karma, the law of cause and effect, is stressed. One is advised to watch their words, thoughts, and actions because all of these things, even thoughts, are rippling out into the whole.

Again, The Underachievers seem to be Hip Hop first mixed with spirituality. Issa, one of the members of The Underachievers, sees it as a tool. I’m excited to see their popularity because Issa mentioned in a short film that he would entertain doing a mass meditation at a show. It is inspiring because most people just want fame for fame but it seems like, with the knowledge they have, they could influence hip hop culture in a massive way and use this fame for good. This is also inspiring because of studies with mass meditation that shows it can reduce the crime rate if done consistently and with enough people.

Even though there is a still a tendency towards substance abuse, I feel it is skillful means in order to get people on the path of spirituality. One of their projects is called "Indigoism" which refers to the concept of Indigo children. These are children said to contain natural psychic abilities which could have been developed in past lives or other dimensions. This connects with the rise of new age spirituality and ascension. Some of these children are said to be from other star systems including the Pleiades and Sirius. They are known as star seeds.

They are “beings that have experienced life elsewhere in the Universe on other planets and in non-physical dimensions other than on Earth. Star Seeds may also have had previous lifetimes on earth.” They are said to come here for service which includes raising the consciousness of the planet and healing. They can manifest as healers, light workers, prophets, shamans, etc.

Many lessons can be learned on Earth which is why beings possibly choose to incarnate on this planet. Even within Buddhist cosmology, being incarnated as a human (amidst a myriad of possible incarnations) is viewed as extremely auspicious and a great opportunity for enlightenment despite the pain and suffering we experience.

Speaking of suffering, The Underachievers reign from Flatbush, New York. Throughout their lyrics, their neighborhood is not painted as ideal but it’s what has given birth to their unique sound. Their most recent project is titled “It Happened in Flatbush.” From what I’ve listened to so far, it is a mix of gritty Hip Hop with hard banging beats and AK’s/Issa’s unique deliveries.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
