Highs And Lows Of Living In

Highs And Lows Of Living In

High: Move-in day. Everyone is excited and ready to start the year off among their sisters. Each room is perfectly decorated to that person’s personality and it is so fun to walk around the house and see each room!

Low: Work Week. Emotions are high and the stress of the week is making girls hostile, to say the least. The house is at such a breaking point that the merely bumping into someone accidentally could cause nuclear destruction.

High: Roommate love. It can be awkward, at first, to adjust to living with a completely new person, but there comes that magical point  -- usually right before bed -- that you both come upon a shared interest, and your whole relationship changes.

Low: Sharing a room. You were so clouded by how much you like your roommate, that you forgot how hard it actually is to live in the same space with someone. Waking up to get ready in the morning, or getting up in the middle of the night, tests your stealth and ninja abilities. What actually happens is you stub your toe, trip over a cord, turn on the wrong light, and manage to wake up your roommate in the process.

High: Social events. Mixers, socials, formals -- they all at the house or the house is where everyone meets to go to them. This means it takes very little effort to walk to any event and you can get dressed and be looking fine without having to trek across campus in heels and sweat off your makeup. You can just walk out of your room.

Low: Snack bar. Most sororities have a declared snacking area filled with bread, bread, and more bread. While this is convenient if you miss a meal or need extra energy for the day, it is a constant source of useless snacking. This is dangerous for many reasons.

High: Closets. Depending on the house’s capacity you could be gaining between 60 to 80 new closets. That means clothes, clothes, clothes. You never have to waste money on a silly outfit for themed parties because your sisters probably have a leotard and leg warmers.

Low: Lack of privacy. To read or work on homework is not a thing. Ever. It does not matter if you have a study room or 24 hour quiet hours. Girls will talk to girls, whenever, which means you need to find a place out of the house to efficiently work and get stuff done so you can come back to the house and chat away.

High: Being served food. Contrary to the snack bar, there is nothing greater than coming home after a long day of classes and work to an already cooked meal. There is no need to go to the store for food, and it takes away the stress when you are not preparing it yourself. You just walk in the house and see all your sisters getting dinner together and rejoice.

Low: Chapter meetings. They are not all bad, but having them every Monday is usually an inconvenient crimp in your day. While it is nice to be able to see all the members and learn about what is going on in the house, you are never really enthusiastic about going to chapter.

High: Connecting with the new members. It can be awkward getting to know a new class of members, but there comes that magical moment when you find a girl who loves the same things you do. Then, your head explodes with a bright neon sign thats says, "Little! But you still try to play it cool.

Low: Little competition. The week's proceeding Big/Little reveal is intense, to say the least. Girls are pressed to find their perfect little, and the competition to get the younger girls attention is cut throat.

High: Big Little Reveal. The stress of the week is over and now you have a new little to shower with gifts.

Low: Being on break. It is true that living in a sorority can be overwhelming, at times, but despite the drama you still miss the house. You miss the late nights with your sisters, the socials, the snacking. It feels like break takes forever because you are so anxious to return back to college and your sisters!

High: Your sisters. Estrogen can get high, emotions can go crazy, but in the end, your sisters are there for you. Living in shows you how women can, and can’t, live together, but you would not have it any other way. Your sisters are their for the low points, high points, and to always support you.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
