When Nerds Attack

This past weekend, San Diego Comic Con happened. For those who don't know what SDCC is, it is one of the most anticipated fan events of the year. It is where casts from upcoming movies and casts from popular TV shows go to share news, trailers, exclusive footage, and more to fans. Here are some of the highlights from SDCC that are sure to get you excited for the next year in film and TV.

1. Thor: Ragnarok trailer

The third installment in the Thor films has a star studded cast, including Cate Blanchet and Jeff Goldblum, and Mark Ruffalo returning as the Hulk/ Bruce Banner. The trailer is filled with color and introductions to some new fierce characters. Also, the Hulk finally speaks! You can watch the trailer here:

2. Marvel's The Defenders trailer

Marvel has now had four shows on Netflix, those shows being Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Luke Cage, and Iron Fist. Now, all four heroes are coming together to form The Defenders in this new show, to protect New York City, mainly Manhattan. Joining the cast will be Sigourney Weaver playing the villain. Here is the official trailer from SDCC:

3. Avengers: Infinity War teaser trailer

The third Avengers film is going to be huge. The Guardians of Galaxy will meet the Avengers for the first time, joining forces to defeat Thanos, a villain who has been slowly building up to this moment in the MCU for years with the Infinity Stones. Unfortunately, the teaser trailer that was presented to fans at SDCC has not been released online to the public, but according to fans who were there, the teaser shows a big battle with the Guardians and Avengers fighting alongside each other against Thanos.

4. Justice League extended trailer

Moving onto DC, an extended trailer for Justice League was released at SDCC. Batman and Wonder Woman are recruiting a team of metahumans, including The Flash, Aquman, and Cyborg in this new trailer you can watch here:

5. Kingsman: The Golden Circle trailer

The sequel to the first Kingsman movie arrives in theatres this September and once again stars Taron Egerton and Colin Firth. Joining them in the cast will be Halle Berry, Julianne Moore, and Channing Tatum. The trailer is full of action and looks like a really exciting sequel. Watch the trailer below!

6. Stranger Things season 2 trailer

Obviously, Stranger Things was a huge hit when it premiered on Netflix last summer and people are waiting impatiently for season 2 to premiere this October. Fans were treated with the official season 2 trailer at SDCC this past weekend and it shows the gang of kids still being haunted by the Upside Down and looking for Eleven. Also, the use of "Thriller" by Michael Jackson as the music in the trailer was quite a fitting touch.

7. Blade Runner 2049

The second trailer for the sequel to 1982's Blade Runner was actually released before SDCC, but of course there wast still a panel for the movie. The trailer shows that its cinematography is very much like that of the original film. Harrison Ford will be reprising his role as Rick Deckard, alongside Ryan Gosling who will be the new star of the franchise.

I don't know about you, but I am quite excited for the next year in movies and television.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
