A Look Back On High School: The Glory Days

Oh the glory days. Whether you were an athlete, a cheerleader, a nerd, the student council president, an AG kid, the kid in every single club or just a plain ol' student, high school, in a nutshell, was pretty great. There are some things we would like to forget and there are some that will live on. It was a great, cruel, fun and awful experience all wrapped into one.

It was where we first fell in "love," where we had our first heartbreak, where we saw some crazy stuff go down, and where we made our "forever" best friends. We all are a high school hang on in some sort of way--as for myself, I was the volleyball star who could jump two feet off the ground, slam the ball in an opponent's face and I thought I was a beast. That was until I got to college, and I am still on a three year workout break. Whether or not we enjoyed high school, let’s look back on the glory days:

1. High school is your prime--you will never again be on the level of physical fitness you were when you were in high school.

2. High school was easy. If I ever thought it was hard--I am an idiot.

3. You never had homework--and if you did, it took you 30 minutes max to complete.

4. If you were an athlete, you literally ran the school.

5. Hall passes were just an excuse to go walk around and go find your friends in their classes and talk to them through the window.

6. No phones? Shoot, the teacher can't see it under my desk or in my purse.

7. No Nike shorts? Too bad. I am just going to wear them and hide from the principals.

8. No yoga pants? Who do they think they are!

9. 5 minute passing periods--and you were still late to class.

10. MLA is a joke. (College likes to use APA.)

11. The rumors were totally blown out of the water.

12. Your football team acted like they were a college team.

13. Can't eat in class? Then why are there vending machines in every building.

14. Office aids--just another excuse to go talk to friends.

15. Fights were literally an everyday occurrence.

16. The girls fell all over the baseball guys.

17. There were so many rules.

18. Having to actually be in classes for seven hours was awful.

19. Your "BFF" then is definitely not your best friend now.

20. The cafeteria food looked like it was recycled from the food that was on the main line the day before (unless it was Chic-fil-a day).

21. Starving yourself was the "in" thing.

22. You always strove to look like a supermodel for your yearbook pictures.

23. Exemptions were the best thing to ever happen.

24. Prom was the highlight of senior year.

25. You remember when the week of graduation started and all of the memories over the past four years began to flood your mind.

26. You finally walked across the stage and received your diploma (well, it was the diploma case--you had to go back during the summer to pick up your diploma).

27. You felt like an adult for the first time because you were no longer a high schooler--you were about to make your way to college.

While in high school, you constantly ask yourself and wonder, "Will I ever really graduate?" Yes, you will, but don't wish these glory days goodbye so quickly. Before you know it, you will be enrolling for senior year of college and begin preparing for the real world and "adulting.” Remember, these days only happen once, so try to enjoy them while you can.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
