5 Lies High School Teachers Told Us About College

College is actually quite the opposite.

5 Lies High School Teachers Told Us About College

Every high school teacher always has that list of things they constantly talk about having to do with college. I'm more than positive that teachers do know about college, since after all they went to college to become a teacher in the first place, but I feel like they give soon-to-be college students the wrong impressions. Here are a few things that my high school teachers always seemed to mention:

1. College professors do not give extra credit.

Extra credit is probably one of the best things about a class. It helps boost your grade and more than likely it is pretty easy to get done. Almost every high school teacher I have had has used the phrase "you won't get extra credit in college." Well, I certainly beg to differ because almost every college class I have taken, there has been some sort of extra credit given to students.

2. Professors don't care about you!

This is probably the most annoying thing I have heard a teacher say. I can still remember the exact moment when one of my teachers from high school stated that college professors are not going to care about how you are doing in your class. I have heard so many stories about professors that have taken time out of their busy schedule just to help students succeed in their class. All I have to say is that professors offer office hours for a reason. They want students to come and ask for help, I mean that is their job right?

3. Tests are going to be the only grades in class.

While this statement may be very true, it's only true for a certain number of classes. At the end of the day, it all depends on what the professor wants to do. From being in college for a year and a half, I have only had one professor that only offers tests as grades. Other than that, every other class I have taken has been assigned numerous homeworks, group assignments, quizzes, tests, and EXTRA CREDIT.

4. Professors won't tell you about tests or due dates.

This is probably the best lie yet. I get at least 50 plus D2L notifications a day letting me know when to finish an assignment before the due date. Professors are always teaching students necessary material to learn before the TEST day.

5. Professors in college only lecture–that means no power points.

Literally almost every single class that I take right now, the professor incorporates power points into lecture. Professors want students to retain the information being taught, and power points are a good thing because you can read the information instead of being rushed to write every single word down.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
