When I was in the 6th grade, I was obsessed with acting. I had this crazy dream to become an actress in Hollywood. I took a year long drama class that year. When my family packed up and moved to Indiana, we moved to a school district that didn't offer drama classes. I was devestated that I wasn't going to get to participate in anything involved with acting.
When I got to high school, I found out the high school had a drama club. At this point, I had given up on pursuing acting and decided I wanted to be a counselor. But it was still an interest of mine. So my best friend persuaded me to audition for our freshman fall play. I auditioned, and didn't get a part. I almost quit there. But my best friend told me to stick it out and keep trying. So I did. And that was one of the best things I ever did.
Throughout my four years in drama club, that group of people changed my life entirely. In that time, I met the love of my life, some of my very best friends, and my home away from home. Even now, after being out of drama club for over a year, walking into my high schools auditorium feels like a safe place for me. I still remember every piece of our drama club rituals. I still try to stop and see my drama director as often as possible. I go to the drama shows when they perform them.
Deciding to do drama club was a life changing decision for me. It made my life the way it has been. Drama Club was and still is my family. Its an amazing feeling, having such a big group of people I know I can rely on in a time of need is nothing short of amazing. The people I met in drama club will never be replaced and will always be my family.
