So you're in college and as it is with most college students you've found your place in some sort of organization. Many find a place among the many Greek Life Fraternities or Sororities or even religious organizations like Campus Crusade for Christ. Some will join political groups like College Republicans or Democrats, while others flock to debate teams and sports teams. Wherever people go, it seems that every college has something for everyone. However, recently there is a new organization that has popped up around campuses nationwide and most everyone doesn't even know about it.

I am of course, referring to Oprah Club.

Ahh yes, Oprah Club, the organization for those who just can't seem to get enough of the eponymous ex-host of the Oprah Winfrey Show. A nation wide group consisting of only the most elite and prestigious Oprah fans, Oprah Club has been rising up on campuses all over the country and shows no signs of slowing down. It's actually incredibly likely that you know at least three members of your local Oprah Club branch. In fact, two out of three readers of this very article are Oprah Club members.

Now much like Mrs. Winfrey herself, the National Oprah Club began right here in Mississippi, with it's first chapter opening up in Mississippi College. I recently actually got to sit down with the club's founder and we got to have a very interesting conversation about the club's plan for the future. She revealed to me that Oprah Club has refined their rush process down to a single simple test. Entitled the "Do you get it?" Test, pledges must answer a short questionnaire for the higher members to determines if they "get it" or not, if they do then they're in; if not, then they're out of luck. She also said that the club had just recently finished their officer elections with not too surprising results. "Well obviously Oprah was voted President, and I'm the obvious pick for Vice President.." said the Founder in reference to the election results. "I'm also Secretary, Treasurer, Sgt. at Arms, Chaplain, Historian, Keeper of the Flame, and official Oprah Fan of the month for 25 months and counting." The founder assures all of the members of Oprah Club that the next years officer core will lead them into a golden age.

So if you find yourself wanting a new place to fit in and have an extreme love for all things Winfrey, then for sure Oprah club is for you. Come rush time, be on the look out for your local Oprah club representatives and rush to see if you "Get it" enough to join the ranks of the most sophisticated and civilized club in history, the Oprah Club.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
