My mom's birthday just so happens to fall in the Mother's Day season. That being said, she has a double-whammy "mom appreciation" in the month of May. But in my mind, that's not enough. Really, as wonderful as Mother's Day is, I feel like my mom deserves so much more than just a single day out of the year in which she is celebrated.
Why? Because my mom is so awesome. I know there's going to be a ton of different articles that writers have dedicated to their mothers this week, and I'm usually trying to go against the flow, but hey, the more love for moms the better. So I'm going to try so hard not to make this cliche. No promises though. Sorry.
Hi, Mom. I have something to tell you.
You are incredible.
I feel like I don't tell you that enough. I know that you're going to brush that compliment off just like every compliment that you get, but you can't deny the truth. You are truly amazing. In raising Amy and I, you've had to go through a lot, but you've done it with so much love and so much grace.
There have been bumps along the way, of course, but it is in those moments that we all realize how much we love and need each other. Although we refused to see it at the time, we both know now that everything that you've done has been for us. Heck, we even knew it at the time, but we would never admit it because we were, you know, stubborn. And we kind of still are. Sorry about that.
When people say, "Oh em gee, you're SO like your mom" or "you're turning into your mother," it is often intended and taken as an insult. In our case, it's just the opposite.
We're proud to be like you, Mom. In being called your personality doppleganger, we are called caring, intelligent, creative, and even funny. They're saying that we have a beautiful soul, one that is full of joy and genuine love. It means that we have a wild imagination and a forever young heart.
I'm not sure how to end this heartfelt letter, so I'm just going to list some great and funny things about you. Like how you eat Peeps, how you sing to our dogs, how you are the Pied Pieper for our dogs without even trying, how you send us cards for every occasion (especially cat and alpaca cards), how you throw the most bomb birthday parties (shoutout to that Wizard of Oz party circa 2006), how you find the most rando and oddly fun things for us all to do. Oh and your gangster voice is pretty kick butt, by the way.
Thank you for loving us so well.
Love always,
Tori and Amy
P.S. You are very hardcore when it comes to parkour. It's inspiring.
