The Tab

Over the past few years, the world has done a complete 180 on body image. At first the world was set on having skinny girls with thigh gaps, and tall boys with six packs. Thankfully now, media outlets and regular people are starting to accept that all bodies are beautiful, and are putting an end to the shamming. Though many clothing lines, and designers have not completely made this turn around of including all different sizes and shapes in their fashion show, a club here at Ithaca College has. Hi-Fashion studios has come together to promote style while also empowering people of all shapes and sizes. Composed of multiple teams that range from modeling to PR, Hi-Fashion looks at everyones strength and confidence and uses it to their advantage to create a fashion show that fun, fabulous, and powerful.

Other than promoting body image, Hi-Fashion is promoting fun style that pushes boundaries and makes a bold statement. One of the many hearts of Hi-Fashion is their creative team of stylists. These stylists take clothes that are donated and even just found in the members closets and put them together to create a bold image that represents their theme and fashion as a whole.

Even further, the clubs extensiveness goes well into inspiring photographers and videographers. Though there are clubs and classes on campus that allow photographers and videographer to build their portfolio, this club goes beyond that. Behind the camera Hi-Fashion allows them to have the control. They are given models and then they are given freedom. With each photographer able to create their own "look book," creativity and confidence flourishes.

Then there is the team that caught my eye the most being a Sephora addict, the makeup team. This team comes to every photoshoot to take fashion further with cosmetology. A lot of people do not associate makeup with fashion but it does make a world of difference and Hi-Fashion shows that with their bold looks. Each makeup artist is given a task for each shoot and then they allow their mind and makeup brushes to go to work and make the look even better.

These are only a few of many teams that Hi-Fashion is composed of. Every member of the club, and there are a lot, are made to feel useful and valuable. Everyone is given and opportunity to show and shine their talents while having fun at the same time. The organization as a whole is extremely well organized and personally one of my favorites on campus. Their message is fantastic and their execution of it is as well.

I was first introduced to Hi-Fashion as a freshman. I saw posters posted around campus and a close friend of mind had invited me to the show. After hearing what Hi-Fashion was about, I thought it would be a great opportunity for me to join. I originally thought I would be part of the makeup team but I found I loved modeling more. Ever since I've joined I have met a lot of new people and friendly faces, and gained a lot more confidence in my own body. I'm proud to be part of the next Hi-Fashion fashion show that will be occurring this Thursday, November 17th, at 7pm in Emerson Suites. Fitting with this years summer olympics the theme is "going for gold." If you're ready to see hard work turn to gold on the runway come check it out and consider applying to be part of the family in the spring!

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
