Little Mix are an all girl British quartet known for winning the X Factor, a music competition show in 2011. On October 16, the ladies took the stage again to perform their latest single "Shoutout to My Ex." As always, the single is a hit with fans around the world. However, their song isn't what everyone is talking about. Perrie Edwards, Jesy Nelson, Leigh-Anne Pinnock and Jade Thirlwall are being brought under fire for wearing "provocative" clothing during the performance. This is just one day after Mel B of the former Spice Girls called the ladies out, saying she found Little Mix too provocative for her 7-year old daughter.
To this, I say chill out world. Little Mix are no different than the average pop stars we have been supporting for almost two decades. Everyone may have gasped in horror at Madonna's "Like A Virgin" performance in the 1980s, but no one should have the same reaction now!
It is a new age. Women are taking back their rights and their bodies all around the world. It is a revolution. No longer do we live in a world where we should be using words like "stripper" and "prostitute" to describe the costumes artists wear on stage during performances.
And that is just what they are: costumes. Is it wrong for a dancer to wear a leotard during a ballet performance? Is it wrong for a gymnast to do the same? No one gives it a second thought. What is wrong with Little Mix rocking their unique look during their show? Absolutely nothing.
If you think they are a bad influence, then you are wrong. Little Mix are all about girl power. For example, check out their tracks "Salute" or "Wings." The lyrics are the perfect inspiration for a little girl who needs to feel better about herself and reaching her dreams.
Not to mention, no one is talking about the important ventures that Little Mix go on. For example, the girls teamed up with Sport Relief, a charity that holds sporting events to raise money for those in need. They also support the charities Together For Short Lives and BeatBullying. These acts are far more important than the outfits that they choose to wear.
Back off, Twitter! Little Mix are doing their thing, and rocking hard while they do it. They represent just what a girl should be: herself. Whether she wants to wear a pantsuit or short shorts. It is time that girls stand together instead of beating each other down. There's enough negativity in this world without hurting one another.
