“He said it was nice meeting me.”
“I don’t care if he said you were his favorite female since his mommy and Joanie Cunningham. Over a week went by, okay, Gigi? And he didn’t call you.”
“But maybe he did call and I didn’t get the message. Or maybe he lost my number. Or he’s out of town. Or got hit by a cab. Or his grandma died.”
He’s Just Not That Into You was playing on my TV the other day, and this scene came on. You know, the scene where Gigi is talking to Alex about how her date went, and she is attempting to assure herself that her date is going to call her even though it has been a week. She disregards every remark that Alex has about the date, even though he is just showing a guy’s perspective. She continues to ramble on about hopeless scenarios she wishes would have happened to her date, just so he would have the tiniest bit of excuse not to pick the phone up and call her.
This is the problem with girls today. We get so caught up in the thought of romance and love that we begin to ignore actions from guys who are totally and completely unacceptable. We overlook the things that indicate that this guy is not worth our time at all because we have this picture-perfect view in our head of how we want our love life to play out.
I began to think about the girls in this century. We settle. This is why marriages end and divorce rates are so high. We settle for the wrong thing because we are too focused on our desire for the right thing.
If a guy is into you, then you will know. Making excuses for him, or imagining impractical scenarios, will not make up for the fact that he is all wrong for you. So be patient, ladies. Stop saying that you are going to be alone forever. Stop saying that good guys do not exist. Your time will come, and you will meet someone who is perfect for you. But until then, stop settling for the ones who are not suitable for you.
The time that you have, right now, is time that you will never get back. It is a time to be selfish and live life for you. Chase your dream job, go after the newest internship, or travel to that country that you have been desiring to visit. Remember, in order for someone to add happiness to your life, you must first learn to be happy with yourself.
