Applying for the college program can be very nerve wracking. You have huge dreams of moving off to Disney, living park to park, and meeting people from all over the world. But then you stop and think, okay, how on earth am I going to get accepted into such a prestigious program? What am I going to do or say to make the interviewer see how much I love Disney and how much I want to be a part of this program? After applying for the program, I realized that there are a few steps you can take to make the process a little bit easier.
1. Be yourself.
It is easy to get caught up in nerves during the interview process. You might be tempted to act like a better version of yourself to seem like you are more compatible for the program, but they are hoping and looking to hear from the real you. They want to hear about your dreams and goals, as well as your obsession with Disney! Just remember, they probably did a College Program too!
2. Practice your phone interview.
For my first phone interview I was so nervous that I wrote out a three page paper with possible questions and answers. I tried to be professional yet quirky, but when the time came I realized that reading off a three page sheet of paper would make me sound like a robot. Long story short, look at Youtube videos for advice and write a few questions, because they will help.
3. Be professional.
Make sure that you set up your phone interview at an appropriate time. You need to be positive that you will not miss it and that you will be in a quiet area. If you miss the phone interview there will be a very slim chance that you will be able to make it up. Also, remember your interviewers name because they will introduce themselves at the beginning of the interview. I think that it is very helpful if you thank them by name at the end of the interview. Also, say yes sir and yes ma'am of course.
4. Rank and research the roles.
You will be tempted to say that you are willing to do any role in order to be a part of the program, and they know that you feel that way so they will be willing to give you any role. With this being said, that means that you will more than likely end up with a role that you had no interest in being a part of. Look into each role and see if you would truly enjoy performing the tasks that come with that role day in and day out. It is okay to say that you are not interested in a role, they will not cut you for this!
5. Make sure that you are ready for the journey of a lifetime.
I had no idea that this program was going to transform me from the inside out. I met the most wonderful people on the program and I grew into an entirely new person. I learned so much about myself and the people around me while I was on the program and I can't wait to be called a cast member again.
Good luck to anyone applying for the program, I hope that these tips helped. Working for a mouse will be the best decision you ever made!
