…They don’t.
They endure it but they don’t survive it. Especially this summer.
I just moved to college four hours south of my hometown. I figured it would be hot or hotter than where I’m from, but that was an understatement. It’s about as hot as Satan’s lair and I cannot handle it for the next month.
Not many people hate the heat as much as I do, but the ones who come close or even out-hate me probably feel the same way. They will relate to the list of how we "survive".
1. You feel like someone trapped you in an oven every time you walk outside because your body is physically and mentally not use to being anywhere near 80 degrees or higher. You might as well just sit in your dryer because it's about as hot as the outside.
2. You try to go out there, but when you do you regret your choices and vow to never leave air conditioning ever again.
3. You might love every other season, and you might actually love outdoor activities during those seasons, but if someone tries to make you go hiking, swimming, or even shopping in the summer--you want to physically smite that person for single-handedly coming up with the dumbest ideas ever.
4. People think you're just being dramatic when you tell them you're dying from heat exhaustion, but you are NOT. You'd rather go live in Antartica for nine years than go spend an hour getting heat exhaustion. Honestly, if it's been more than five hours outside, you're probably hoping a heat stroke finally makes you pass out. At least then you won't be able to recognize the heat.
5. Everyone thinks you aren't outgoing and you'd rather just sit at home, but no. That's not the case. You can be outgoing as long as that outgoing does not actually involve out or going.
6. Can you die from sweating too hard? Everyone equipped to handle the heat look like professional models and not like a drowned cat just got electrocuted. It doesn't matter how much makeup you put on to hide it. You will look like you just went on a serial killer spree and didn't have time to shower to hide the evidence.
And that is why I am dying in college right now. Only one. More. Month.
I'm counting down the days.
