Recently, Ohio passed the “heartbeat” abortion bill in which states that abortions will no longer be available to women from the moment that a heartbeat is detected. Ultimately, a heartbeat of a fetus is detected at about six weeks into a pregnancy. Also, many women do not even realize they are pregnant until about four to six weeks. Of course, there are many opinions on the new “heartbeat” abortion bill and along with opinions, there are very crude social media opinions. I believe that everyone should have their own opinions and I also believe that everyone should respect other’s opinions. There is a difference between a friendly conversation and an unnecessary confrontation. My stance of the abortion bill is completely different than most people that I interact with and because I respect their opinion, I demand respect for my point of view as well.
I genuinely believe that the government controlling abortions is a little extreme. I understand placing a limit on abortion if a woman was long-term, unless there were circumstantial reasoning, but why must the government place restrictions on abortion as little as six weeks? There are certain instances in which a woman may not be able to fully handle the pregnancy such as in rape or incest. The counterargument for those specific instances is usually adoption, yet how can someone expect a woman to be reminded for nine months that she was brutally raped? A woman should not be expected to deal with that amount of emotional stress and instead she should be able to move on and heal properly. In the cases on incest, not only biological reasons should qualify for an abortion, but incest could also be a cause of rape. Either way, the government should not place a ban on abortion for woman.
Women deserve their choice if they want to have a child or not, period. There are plenty of measures that can be taken to prevent pregnancy, yet there are times in which those planned methods fail. In the case that an individual is fully aware they will not make a great parent, there is no sense in bringing a child into the world that is unwanted. There are a multitude of people who carelessly bring children into the world and then neglect them and ultimately the children continue the cycle. Also, what if a woman finds out she is pregnant and the other half of the child bearing equation decides not to partake? Then the woman is left deciding if she can survive raising a child. When having a child, there are finances, time, and the pressure of raising a dignified child to consider. I do not believe that a woman should suffer the consequences of an act that took two people to participate in.
Unfortunately, with the abortion debate will be a continuous debate. By banning abortion, the government is ending abortions, but they are ending safe abortions. By making available and affordable contraceptives can help lower the abortion rate and the rate of unwanted pregnancy. Overall, there is no reason to judge a female for choosing abortion. There are certain reasoning’s that a woman must have for terminating her pregnancy and unless society is sitting in that woman’s perspective, there should be no judgement. Taking away the right for women to choose if they want to reproduce and start another life is unconstitutional. If the government is allowed to ban women from terminating a pregnancy what is stopping the government from allowing only certain individuals to reproduce and terminating certain pregnancies themselves. Giving the government power to ban abortions is placing too much power into the hands of the government instead of the people raising these children.
