Dear Society,
My name is Caroline McGuire and I have personally nominated myself to address whoever manages to click on this link to inform them on what it is like to have the name Caroline. Having the name Caroline is quite interesting to say the least. There are many different nicknames, iconic songs and even states named after it which certainly keeps us on our toes.
Throughout the years, I have developed a impressive list of nicknames that have come from friends, family and even strangers. I'm sure every Caroline could say the same. Caroline, being a three syllable word, allows your friends to get creative. Caroline, a regal name, if I do say so myself, can quickly turn into sounding like a grandma, such as Carol. It's not that I hate the elderly or anyone's grandmother named Carol, but us Caroline's would love if you could please refrain from making us sound like girls who enjoy bridge and needlepoint during our free time. Carebear, another nickname that will end your friendship. I am not a 3-year-old, nor am I a stuffed bear with a rainbow on my stomach and magical powers. If you stick to the basics like Caro, Carolina, Care, Line, C-line, C to the Line, you'll be in the clear.
Nicknames are one thing, but having your name sung to you can be your worst nightmare or where you ultimately peak at a party. Everyone knows Neil Dimond's "Sweet Caroline" and that BA BA BAAAA. Red Socks fans worship us and Yankee fans are extremely bitter. However, whenever it comes on at a party and all heads turn to you, you are faced with one choice and one choice only, to freaking own it. Yes, my name is Caroline and yes, I am queen for the next three minutes. And then there is the infamous Outkast song, "Roses," another classic played at every party. I swear this song lives to haunt me. It's so catchy, yet absolutely trashes a girl named Caroline and everyone loves to serenade me with it. "She's the reason for the word, b****," is a real confidence booster.
Lastly, I am not a state. I am simply not a location. Yes, there happens to be a North Carolina and a South Carolina, but I'm just Caroline. In James Taylor's mind he's going to Carolina, which is pretty unclear if you ask me. Is he going to bae or one of the above? I guess we'll never know. What I do know is this: Caroline is a pretty cool name.
Sincerely,
Caroline, Caro, Carolina, Care, Line, C-line, or C to the Line
