Having Guy Best Friends In College Is The Greatest Gift

I don’t know what I would do without them.

Having Guy Best Friends In College Is The Greatest Gift

If you would’ve told me a year ago that I would be best friends with these two army guys, I wouldn’t have believed you.

I met my boyfriend Chace about six months ago when I started college at Georgia Southern. He’s a Construction Management major and was from the outskirts of my hometown. He told me he wanted to go into the Army and dreamed of helping others. We were completely different people; we had different backgrounds, socio-economical statuses, and views on many things. Somehow we make this work. This past week marks 4 months with him, and I’ve never been happier. I was terrified at the idea of him leaving for Basic Training this May, and that I would be alone. Then one day we had lunch with his friends in ROTC (he calls them his “battle buddies”), and I met Thomas.

Now Thomas is generally the stereotypical image of “that army guy." He’s just your average big, conservative, looks like he would fight a bear kind-of-guy. At this time last semester, he was just one of Chace’s ROTC friends. He was another guy I thought I didn’t have anything in common with. Sometime between then and now, he became my best friend. He took me to my first college party and looked after me. He made sure I was okay the entire time and that I was safe. He likes to think of me as his little sister (even though I’m three months older than him). It’s something I wasn’t used to, and it’s very reassuring to know that you have someone that will always have your back.

I know it sounds completely crazy to think these guys have had such a big effect on me in such a short amount of time. They are my best friends, no doubt about that. They've both had a huge effect on my life so far. With Chace, he's my boyfriend and we're in a healthy relationship. That's something you don't see alot of in college these days. With Thomas, he makes me keep up with him. This usually means dragging me to the gym at 6:00 AM from time to time.

I hope that a year, two years, even ten years from now, that I’ll have these guys in my life. I don’t know what I would do without them.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
