It was the golden age of the Superhero. At least, that's what they called it. It is when Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman and other well-known comic book characters were first created. From 1930s until the 1960s, the origin of the comic books characters were birthed out of the war. Creating these comics was a way to make people feel more comfortable about the events that were taking place during that time in our history. In 1938, it was the beginning with Superman. Today, we have Supergirl. Although these characters were created during a time when they were needed, their origin stories still seem to fit in with the topics of today. Thanks to talented writers who are probably descendants of fanboys, we are in an era of the superhero again. It's funny to think that comic books have an age in history: Golden, Silver, Bronze and the Modern age.
It is clear that we are a part of the Modern age of comics that stemmed from the mid-1980s until the present day. We all know who Batman is, but what about his origins? How is he connected with other superheroes? Well, if you watch "Gotham," then they give you a pretty detailed history of Batman that starts from the age of 11. Who would have thought that all of the villains grew up with little Bruce Wayne? There has never been a detailed origin story to most characters, so it is up to the Modern age of comics to create it.
Right now, you can watch many of the previously unknown superheroes surfacing all over the TV screen. From the CW and ABC networks to CBS, these networks create cross-over episodes that will have anyone hooked.
In a survey done by whatsgoodly.com, "Arrow" is one of the most watched shows right now with 12 percent of the votes, "The Flash" with 7 percent, "Agents of Shield" at 5 percent, "Supergirl" and "Agent Carter" coming in at 2 percent and finally, the new "Legends of Tomorrow" with 1 percent. This is only the beginning. The list of superhero-themed shows is long. They all are trying to grab the attention of new and old fanboys. "Arrow" has been on for the last four years, and you can see blogs blowing up with information each week with spoilers. This show introduced "The Flash," which after one season gave birth to "Legends of Tomorrow." "Supergirl" premiered with its first season all while "Gotham" was giving life to Batman's story. The ABC networks have been sticking to the script with "Agents of Shield," which seems to cross right into each Avengers movie that explodes at the box office. Adding "Agent Carter" to the mix gives you the origin story of Tony Stark and his father during the 1940s. The movies are like the year finale to each show.
The list of movies coming out is a long one, but you can say that the age of the superhero is not going anywhere anytime soon.
There are many political, social and racial issues going on in America right now and over the last few years. A superhero mentality is something that all of us need.
