Pokemon Go is not what everyone makes it out to be. While there have been several positive remarks about the new gaming app, there seem to be negative aspects as well.
Sure, the app gets people off of their couches, but where exactly does it take them?
Parks, lakes, supermarkets, and other populated areas seem to be some of the popular spots. But what happens when the Pokemon Go-ers become so immersed in "catching them all" and end up trespassing on private property? Or when they get so caught up in their app to even notice that it has taken them into a dangerous part of town? Personally, I don't even want to know what kind of Pokemon reside in dark, abandoned alleys.
"Pokemon-Go has done more for childhood obesity than Michelle Obama has done in 8 years"
FALSE. App users may be "getting their steps in" so to speak, but they could be using that time to actually work out instead of wandering around aimlessly staring at their phones. The same goes for those who sit on the couch watching Netflix for hours upon end (guilty), it's all about using your time wisely. If you think that this app will solve childhood obesity, I'm sorry to say you are sadly mistaken. It takes more than giving kids a reason to walk around in order to solve that problem.
"But you get to be social too!"
Making new friends with a common interest is always fun. But when it comes to interacting with strangers that you literally know nothing about, you have to be careful. Think about how many chat room conversations with strangers have led to abductions. The same could go for all of the younger Pokemon Go app users. Predators could use this app to hunt for their next captive at the Poke-stops. Now I know most parents wouldn't let their kid go "hunting for Pokemon" alone, but things can still happen. We live in a very corrupted world filled with people who don't share the same views and morals as everyone else.
Nerds everywhere are rejoicing that they get to relive the 90s and actually go out and catch Pokemon in the real world thanks to this new app. How about instead of reliving the past, we enjoy the present and spend some quality time actually sitting down and having a conversation with our friends? Or maybe use the time spent chasing Pokemon to get educated on current events in the news? Or possibly making a difference in this corrupted world we live in?
