The Shanley Hotel Haunting Secrets

Located in Napanoch, New York, the Shanley Hotel is a haunted go-to for paranormal investigators or for an overnight experience with paranormal in general. It consists of 35 rooms and a hidden basement. Many investigators believe that spirits of the Shanley communicate with the living to bring secrets into the light.

People believe many of the hauntings seem to associate with one of the owners and his family, James Shanley. Rumor has it that witnesses have seen the ghost or apparition of James Shanley wandering around the halls of the hotel. And some have even heard his wife, Beatrice crying over the loss of her three children before their nine-month due date and her sister.

Some people have even heard non-visible children laughing, objects moving by themselves, unexplained, faint scents, the smell of a burning pipe or food.

In fact, the Shanley hotel reputation's of being the most haunted hotel on the east coast requires it's guests to sign a waiver if they wish to stay over night. WHAT IN THE WORLD IS GOING ON HERE?! Not even the Stanley Hotel requires this.

In one of the more haunted spots of the hotel, the Bordello or brothel, guests report to experiencing shortness of breath and extreme shifts of their emotions when entering the area.

Some investigators who bring an EVP have picked up people saying things such as "Answer me Kid!", "Murdered!" or "Betty?". One owner, Sal Nicosa even reported to seeing a full body apparition of a women going from one room to the next on the third floor after buying the hotel.

But, what has caused these spirits to be unrestless in the Shanley?

As mentioned before, James and Beatrice Shanley one of the owners lost all three of their kids before they were even born. And their hotel barber loss his four year old daughter who fell and drowned in the well located at the hotel. Is one of the children's laughter hers?

Beatrice's sister, Esther passed away after giving birth to her third child, so maybe she's the women owners and visitors have seen passing throughout the rooms. And then we also have James Shanley who died of a heart attack and many believe to still hear his footsteps throughout the halls time to time.

There were also other deaths that may have been triggering these paranormal occurrences- the Shanley has seen it's fair share of murders, accidental deaths or just pure tragic deaths and people going missing.

And the bordello that serves has a hotspot in the hotel for supernatural occurrences was once a popular place in the 1920s for illegal distribution of alcohol during the prohibition era.

The Shanley Hotel closed in 2016 due to the owners death but has since reopened to the public for people to experience and explore or stay overnight to investigate.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
