Yesterday millions of hearts cried out in agony when an interview that Zac Efron did with Men's Fitness revealed that he regretted taking part in the "High School Musical" series. If you are anything like me, you probably still love the trio of movies. The first movie premiered on Disney Channel in 2006. As an eight year old, Zac Efron as Troy Bolton was my first major crush. You're most definitely lying if you say you weren't jealous of Gabriella every time he sang to, or looked at for that matter, her. So yeah, this news is pretty upsetting. I guess we now know why he was absent from the 10 year reunion Disney held earlier this year. If you haven't seen what Zac said yet you can find his interview by clicking here. Don't forget to grab some tissues for your inner child.
While this news is heartbreaking, it's not something to hate Zac over. Though at first read I was pretty mad, I realized that he's done nothing wrong. Okay he did break our hearts but other than that, nothing! Think about it for a minute. Zac's statements about regretting doing HSM just show that he has grown up. He was pretty young when he started out as Troy Bolton. So at the time he probably thought this role was a great idea. Now that Zac has grown up he's looking for more mature roles. What's so wrong with that? We can't hate Zac for growing out of an old role of his when we've all grown out of our childhood things too.
Growing up is a part of life that everyone has to go through. If no one ever grew up you'd have people like George Clooney doing cheesy kids movies. We've all had weird obsessions as children that we've since grown out of. I'm sure you're pretty thankful for that! So maybe Zac doesn't really hate the movies. Maybe he's just grown up from doing roles like that. Plus if Zac hadn't grown up we'd never see his amazing set of abs in movies like Neighbors. While Troy Bolton would make a great frat boy, I'm sure our mothers wouldn't want us watching a musical version of Neighbors.
Instead of being mad at Zac for his comments, we should be proud of him, and happy that he's no longer battling addiction and is happy himself. While his comments could have been a little less harsh, we can't take to twitter to persecute him. We've all said harsh things about things we grew out of and now regret, I know I have. So yeah it is sad, but it's not the end of the world. We've still got plenty of other cast members of HSM who have yet to disclose how they feel about the popular movie that we can lean on.
