2016 is coming to a close and with 2017 just a few weeks away, "Out with the old and in with the new! New year, new me!" The new year is coming along really quickly and I can already feel the resolutions that people are creating. "I'm going to put myself out there more. I'm going to lose weight. This is the year that I find the one" etc. Yes, the new year calls for you to leave behind all the events and occurrences of years' past. However, the new year doesn't mean you're magically going to be someone that you know you're not.
This "New Year, New Me" phenomena is an excuse for people to be versions of themselves that they wish they were. If the year can change, I can change too, can't I? Well, how often do you meet someone that actually pulls through with their New Years resolutions. The fact of the matter is that we put too much pressure on ourselves to be something we're not right away and we give up quickly as a result.
Everyone goes at their own pace when it comes to making change. The better way to go about change is realizing that you're making small and steady improvements everyday. Chances are that you're not going to lose that pesky 15 pounds in the month of January and you're probably not find the love of your life on New Years Eve. However, you could lose a pound or two every other week and slowly work towards meeting that special someone.
Every year, we want to suddenly transform into this person that we're not. We don't spend enough time loving ourselves for who we are and spend too much time idolizing these images of what external sources lead us to believe is "perfect". What we don't realize is that there is no such thing as perfect. We push too hard to reach these outrageously big goals and we burn out quickly. Its better to go about these things day by day. Change isn't something thats going to happen right away and the first step is recognizing that. You don't have to wait for January 1st to change. Stop putting pressure on yourselves people! Take it one step at a time.
Can we push for #NewDayBetterMe ?
