Attention, wizards: Raise your wands high because on July 31, J.K. Rowling's Harry Potter series is back in action. After 19 years of anticipation, a sequel to the series is making its debut and we are SIRIUSLY excited.
"After all this time?" you might ask.
"Always", J.K. Rowling tenderly responds. (According to the imaginary dialogue in my head)
Harry Potter and the Cursed Child Parts I & II is the title of the newest installment to the series and is actually a novelization from the play which premieres in London's West End this summer. Since the majority of us will never have the opportunity to travel to London to witness the story being told via theatrical performance, Rowling is releasing this script book to bless the masses.
This book picks up directly where Rowling left off 19 years ago. Our last sighting of Harry Potter was in Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows when an adult Harry is seen at Platform Nine and Three-Quarters with his wife and three children. This new story begins after this scene.
The official synopsis for the script book hints that adventurous turmoil awaits his son at Hogwarts:
"It was always difficult being Harry Potter and it isn’t much easier now that he is an overworked employee of the Ministry of Magic, a husband and father of three school-age children. While Harry grapples with a past that refuses to stay where it belongs, his youngest son, Albus, must struggle with the weight of a family legacy he never wanted. As past and present fuse ominously, both father and son learn the uncomfortable truth: sometimes, darkness comes from unexpected places."
What more could we expect from Rowling than another insanely creative, page-turning adventure? However, enduring the hardships and magical shenanigans alongside the young Albus as well as seeing Harry in a new perspective as a father and husband will be a new, refreshing twist.
Take heart in knowing that the publishing of this script book is not a hoax. Rowling herself has retweeted various credible sources that confirm the validity of this RIDDIKULUS news.
So we zealously return once more to Barnes and Noble at midnight with cash in our hands and excitement in our eyes. After years of waiting, Rowling allows us to experience the familiar thrill of discovering more of the elaborate story she brought into existence.
I have one question for you, wizards. Who's ready to go back to Hogwarts on July 31?
Note: I may or may not have had "Hedwig's Theme" playing in my head during the entirety of me writing this.
