It’s here. The moment we’ve all been waiting for:
JK Rowling is releasing an eighth Harry Potter book.
The last Harry Potter release from Rowling was in 2007 with the seventh novel of the series, "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows." Nine years later, we’re about to receive a magical new addition to our bookshelves, which I am absolutely certain will not disappoint fans, new or old.
A few months after her announcement that there will be a two-part stage play in London called "Harry Potter and the Cursed Child," set 19 years into the future where we last left Harry, Rowling also announced that fans will have the opportunity to read the play as a text after the play premieres this summer.
However, do not be deceived: this publication is a script of the play, not a novel. Either way, I'm not complaining. This is literally the best news I have ever heard. After years of a dry spell, I’m going to be able to get even more Harry Potter.
While, yes, I’m excited about “Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them,” I’m looking forward to a new Harry Potter book rather than something else from the Wizarding World. Not to say I’m not excited for “Fantastic Beasts” because, as a Harry Potter fan, I take whatever I can get, but I can’t wait for a new book and a new story with characters I adore, plus new characters that are going to fit into the world I already know so well.
I get so sad when people say that she only releases new stories for the money – that’s not what it is at all. JK Rowling has created such an expansive and detailed world that is a truly a privilege to be a part of, and she wouldn’t ever publish anything related to Harry Potter unless she truly felt that it lived up to what she has created and revealed to fans already.
Expect the new publication to be available this summer on July 31. You can read more of the announcement at Pottermore.com.
