Dear Dad,
Ever since I was a child I could remember you working long hours, weekends, and sometimes even nights. Yet, you always managed to find time to be my father. I’m lucky to have someone like you who continuously works to better my life every day. You work hard to make sure our family has everything we need, and all I can say is thank you.
Throughout my life, you have always supported me in everything I accomplish and choose to do. You were there for me and to cheer me on even when you were tired. But, your love was never conditional. You have been there for me during my hard days and continue to show that support even now when I’m away at college. Your dedication to work hard and be a good person has influenced me to do the same now that I’m an adult, having to make my own decisions and compromises while I’m away.
Looking back as to when I was a child I can easily peg myself as a “daddy’s girl." We always had the best times together. Whether it be fishing, boogie boarding in the ocean, reading together, or picking me up when I raised my hands in the air saying “uppie uppie," you were there for me. You taught me how to laugh uncontrollably and even though you teasingly joked around with me- knowing I’d get mad, but would soon forget and laugh. And even though you worked long hours and only got one vacation a year, you always found the time to laugh with me and to be enjoyable. I will never forget the memories we shared when I was a kid.
As I’ve grown up, we’ve naturally drifted apart. I became busier with school and work and friends and you continuing to work many weekends throughout the summer and school year. But I’ve never stopped appreciating you. I now realize more than ever how much you do for our family and how hard you work. No matter how little I see you or talk to you sometimes- especially when I’m away at college –– I cherish you and our memories. You’re the definition of a hardworking and loving father, and I thank you for that.
Thank you for teaching me how to be a good person and showing me that I can accomplish anything I set my mind too. You’ve been the best dad I could ever ask for.
