When Hard Work Doesn't Pay Off

We always hear people say: "Hard work does pay off!". But what happens when it doesn't?

As humans we have goals. We strive to reach them to the best of our abilities. When we set a goal, we work hard for it. Simple as that, but things don’t always go as planned.

College has its obstacles. It is just a huge bowl of stress, work, time management, and some fun. College students have their own system of surviving. Some students have a planner, some just wing it, and some people are just on top of everything. No matter what your system of surviving may be, there’s always the possibility of a flaw popping up.

For the past six years I’ve used a planner, organized my google calendar, and scheduled everything (even food breaks within the day). This system may sound perfect but as I’ve said before, systems have flaws. I work hard for what I intend to reach. I set goals each day. I try to do my best, but it’s not always going to go my way. And that’s totally okay. For the past few years I’ve put so many expectations upon myself that every time I don't meet those expectations my perception of myself diminishes. Bringing yourself down will never help, not you not anyone.

When hard work doesn’t pay off, that just reminds you that hard work is not the key. The key is dealing with failure. If you give up right after failing, that’s when you’ve reached the low. Life will be there to throw some curve balls, if you duck or try to catch these balls says a lot about you. It’s not about how you fall, it’s about how you stand back up.

When hard work doesn’t pay off it’s not the end of the world. You knew how hard you worked for it, and that’s all that matters. You did your best, now it’s time to get back up and try again.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Challah vs. Easter Bread: A Delicious Dilemma

Is there really such a difference in Challah bread or Easter Bread?

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
