"I can't wait to graduate and be on my own," says literally every high school student when they reach their senior year. (It might even be in the sophomore year for some of us.) Everyone cannot wait to finally graduate and live up their last summer before they head off to different colleges. They can't wait finally be free without worrying about your parents coming home too early and possibly walking in on an awkward third base trip as well. Don't get too excited, though. There are pros and cons to every imaginable scenario in college.
Do you want to hook up with that cute boy who you have been making eyes with every day in freshman bio and who you finally saw at that party? Do it, girl. Just be sure to kick out your roommate first and lock the door. Privacy doesn't completely exist yet. Do you want to get rowdy? Do it. Just watch out, as RAs do actually exist and actually do their jobs. Do you want to skip class? Do it. Just don't do it too often. However, if it's chemistry, don't skip. You'll fail (trust me, I know). Do you want to play a sport? Do it, just be prepared to constantly be tired, sore, and get lower grades. Do you want to join a frat/srat? Do it, just be prepared to be totally broke. Do you want to change your major? Do it, just not as a senior.
College is every meme that you've ever seen online. Finals week really does suck, you can do nothing all day and still be tired, and, yes, you're always broke. So, college is hard and it really is a mini adult world, but college is fun. It is still only a mini adult world. You have all of this stress and almost no time, but it's your time. Make mistakes, change your mind at the last second, do what your gut says, and enjoy every second of it. You can actually choose who you want to hang out with for once. You're limited to your high school senior class. Truly be yourself. This is the time when we are kind of on our own, but are not obligated to make anyone but ourselves happy. We are not responsible for anyone but ourselves. We have no real responsibilities yet because spending three consistent days in bed with Netflix is a real-life thing. So, please don't expect the college life that you see on TV because I promise that doesn't exist. However, you should also get ready for the four best (and most exhausting) years of your life. Never take this time for granted because we only have this chance once. I promise that you won't regret it.
