It feels like just yesterday that I was packing everything up that I was going to bring to college with me and now I have just a little over a month until I am done with my first semester of college! I thought that these four years were going to be even longer than my years of high school, but I was wrong! I was so nervous about college and how the experience was going to be, but with one semester left of my freshman year, I must say that I love everything college has to offer!
When people say to enjoy your years of college because they fly by, they aren't joking! At first, I thought that college was going to go slow because I have four years of it, but now I see that it really does go by quick. It is hard to believe that I almost have one semester of college completed. I am now getting ready to schedule my classes for the spring semester!
One of the things that I feel make college go by so fast is the fact that you don't have the same class every day like you do in high school. The classes that you have in college usually meet 2 or 3 times a week depending on how long the class is. Another contribution to making college go by faster is that you have more time for yourself rather than being stuck in a building for 8 hours a day. In college, you are not stuck in one building or really have class for 8 hours. Having more time outside of a classroom allows you to space your work out and have fun. Everything seems to go by faster when you are not in the same place for a majority of your day!
In college, you also get more breaks which allow for a quick semester. When I was in high school, I remember waiting what seemed like forever to have a holiday break, but now in college, the holiday breaks are literally right around the corner! The nice about holiday breaks in college is that after returning from Thanksgiving break, you don't have many more days until you are back on Christmas break! Having longer breaks with very little time in between help to make the semester go by quicker because you don't have to wait very long.
Having two or three exams in one class over a course of 15 weeks also makes a semester go by quicker because it seems like you are covering more material than what you are used to. Knowing that you only have maybe 2 to 3 exams and then a big final sounds like it is a short semester. Trust me, the semesters go by in the blink of an eye!
Meeting new people and having fun is also part of what makes college go by faster as well! If you make tons of friends, you are more likely to be out having fun and being interested in different campus activities rather than sitting in your dorm room waiting for the next day to arrive. Joining clubs and organizations is something that I recommend because you will meet so many new people and get to do so many things that you will forget what month you are even in!
All in all, make sure you live your college years to the fullest and have as much fun as possible because college really does fly by! One day you will be packing to move into a dorm and then next thing you know, you will be halfway done with your first year! I am still in shock that I am almost done with my first year of college. Four years may seem like it will take forever, but I promise that they will be the quickest four years of your life. So be sure to get involved and make friends because the friends you meet in this short amount of time are more than likely the friends that you will have around for good! Make sure that you appreciate every moment in college because you will soon enough be graduating with a degree and leaving the college experience behind!
