Happiness Is In The Now

Why worry about what did or will happen? Life is in the present and so is joy.

Happiness Is In The Now

People constantly reminisce about the past. We think about all our mistakes, memorable moments and how to either repeat the actions or avoid them. I believe we sometimes live in the past because, when life may not be going so great, it can be better to think about grand times. We also think about past events so that we can possibly learn from them. But if we live in the past too much, we will miss all the happy moments happening in front of us.

The past can, in fact, ruin happiness for today. The future can as well.

It's human nature for us to over think and plan for the future. We constantly worry about where we are going to end up, who will we marry, what exactly does the future hold for us and so on. I think we worry about the future so much because we don't want past mistakes to occur again.

We plan so much, because we think that if our future is figured out, and know what will happen, we will be happy in life. I do agree, we need to think about our future and create goals. But that is different than actually worrying. The reality is we can't control everything, and stressing about what might happen will do no good. Worrying will not bring joy.

Instead of daydreaming about how you were once the most popular kid in high school or stressing about what job you'll have after graduation college, live in the moment you are in.

Enjoy laughing with your friends about what you saw on TV, lay down on the grass and watch the stars or roll down a hill like you did when you were five and life was simple. Dance around your room with the music blasting, take a million pictures and take a nature walk.

True happiness is in the moments that are happening when you are living life as it is occurring.

Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
