Happiness Comes With Paws

The joys and excitement of having a furry friend.

Just recently I have been doing a lot of pet sitting and it has me thinking about pets. My pets. My friends pets. The pets of the people whom I pet sit for. My next door neighbor's pets. You get the idea.

Anyway, sometimes you don’t think about it, but having some sort of animal in your life to love and look after is such a huge blessing. Since the day I was born, I have been surround by the furriness of an animal. I can’t imagine my life any other way. I can think of so many wonderful memories I have of these pets. From the silliest of things they have done, to the scariest moments of when they got hurt. But most importantly the impact that they have on your life. It is scientifically known that having a pet improves your happiness and reduces stress.

Of course all of those things are wonderful, but what truly matters the most about having a pet are the littlest of things and the way that they are forever in your heart. Here are some of my favorite, and hopefully yours too, of why having a sweet, little (or big) animal in your life is a blessing.

1. They put a smile on your face

What could be more amazing than a smile? And what’s even better is when that smile is from one of your fur babies. I can’t tell you how many times I have smiled and laughed because of something sweet or silly that my dog(s) have done. From acting all goofy and sweet. Or from being all clumsy and dumb.

2. The endless cuddles

The crazy amounts of fur is worth all the cuddles in the world. I just love it when all my cat wants to do is curl up on my lap. It makes me feel so wanted. And when I have dogs fighting over my affection and wanting to lay next to (or on) me. Even when they crush you with their size, you can’t help but love it.

3. The looks they give you

Let me just tell you, I swear I get some of the sassiest looks in the world from my pets. Like if I don’t give them what they want, they just give me a look that if they could talk would say something like, “Why the hell isn’t there any food in my bowl?!” But there are also the looks that just melt your heart. Whether it is a pitiful look or a stare down from chocolaty brown eyes, you can’t help but to feel all warm and fuzzy on the inside.

4. The excitement they have for you

When you come home from a long day and they just go crazy seeing you. Jumping around and acting nuts. Or when they, like my cat, just get all talkative towards you. That’s the best. They make everything you do a big deal. Waking up? Party. Getting off the couch? Party. Going for a walk? Party. Making food? Best thing to have ever happened to them.

5. When they take care of you

Even when I am lying in bed miserable and sick, I feel so much joy because my cat or my dog want to come lay with me. Maybe it’s the perfect opportunity to cuddle since you’re not moving, but really it’s about how much they care about you and don’t like seeing you not feeling well.

6. The amount of love

Man, oh, man do I love my pets like there is no tomorrow. They mean the world to you. They are a part of your family. You truly can’t imagine your life without them. And when the times comes for them to be in a better place, you can’t help but feel like they stole a piece of you. And you are okay with that because they mean that much to you.

I have always considered myself lucky to be able to share my home, my bed, and my life with my pets. I am even luckier being able to enjoy the pets other people care so much about. Pets are the sweet angels of your world. So make sure to take great care of them and give them lots and lots of love and toys. They are your best friends.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
