What Happened When I Quit Social Media

Can you make it a week without social media?

What Happened When I Quit Social Media

Instagram. Twitter. Tumblr. Facebook... It's like having a full time job to keep up with every social media account one could have. I get so overwhelmed at the fact that I haven't posted a picture in awhile, has the world forgotten about me? As funny or borderline crazy as this may sound, it's true. Is this generation so brainwashed into thinking that social media is a necessity? I decided to try this out for myself and eliminated social media from my life for the entire week.

The beginning of the week wasn't as bad as I had thought. I went into this challenge thinking that I wouldn't even notice that I hadn't been on social media because I was above the stereotype . Come to find out that lasted all of about 4 hours. I was in line waiting for my lunch and started feeling anxious! I didn't have anything to keep me occupied while I waited and the more people that flooded into the cafeteria, the more of an urge I felt to grab my phone and play a game.

Isn't that crazy! The fact that I rather spend time in a virtual reality than with real living, breathing humans is insane; yet its what happened. Looking on the bright side, the rest of the week took a turn for the better. I found more time to do some of the things I had put on hold, like writing more or catching up on that " procrastination" pile of homework thats been lying around.

Come the end of the week and finale day of my challenge, I found myself lost after taking the week off. I felt like I had dropped off the face of the earth and had no idea what anyone was talking about. And as scary as that sounds, It made me realize just how happy I was to have taken the break from social media. Its refreshing not to have to worry about what filter to use or why that boy you like didn't reply to your snapchat. To me, life is filled with so many more meaningful moments that we should make more of an effort to seek out rather then catch up on youtube tutorials.

Here I am, challenging all of you to try this out for yourself. Give up the hashtags and retweets for a week of pure bliss and see how dependent you've been on social media up until this point!

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

Top 10 Reasons My School Rocks!

Why I Chose a Small School Over a Big University.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
