When you get a wake up text saying "let's go to the lake/ocean/water park!"

You decide if you wanna go or not and finally decide that you do.

You throw your swimsuit on and roll out.

You show up with your crew, feeling fierce as always.

You lay out your towels and get all settled in when your friend starts slathering on sunscreen.

Then she looks at you and says "you should really wear sunscreen." You just laugh.

You go about your day, enjoying the sunshine and ice cold water. You don't have a care in the world.

Meanwhile, your friend is giving you side eye for not protecting your skin from the harsh rays.

After hours of endless fun you leave and feel fine until the next day, when you wake up looking like this.

And screaming like this. (The heat of a thousand suns is resting on your entire body so this seems like an appropriate response.)

When you see your friend later on she looks a little like this.

But as the day goes on the inflammation goes away and the peeling stops. Suddenly your previous burn becomes a glorious tan and you high five yourself. Nice try sun, not this time.

But then you make a quick Target run to buy sunscreen (and everything else in the store) because sunscreen (and Target) aren't a joke.

Sun: 1. You: 1. Maybe one day you and the sun will be friends.

But, I know that there are plenty of times I forgot to give you a simple thank you or an appreciative smile. I thank you for everything that you have done for me and will continue to do for me. Here are some examples of those times where you had my back and I forgot to pat your back for saving me:

College is hard. As people ages 18-22, we’re just trying to figure out what we’re doing with our lives, our careers, our eating habits, exercise routines, sleep patterns, and other necessities for adult life. We definitely don’t take proper care of ourselves; it’s basically impossible when we have essays, tests and readings due and somehow we’re supposed to eat right, exercise and sleep. We’re doomed to get sick. I have zero experience in science but when I get sick there are certain things I do to make myself better.

Now that it seems “talking” is the new way to date, and will stay that way until another idiotic term is used to describe the people who can’t settle down and just date someone, I feel as if it’s time to go over the unwritten rules of “talking.”

Rule 1. Having feeling without feeling.
