If you're anything like me, horror and scary things are not in the book for the Halloween season. You'd rather do most anything then be forced into a haunted house or a horror film. I wanted to come up with some things you can still look forward to with Halloween just around the corner even if the holiday isn't your thing.
1. Cooler weather.
I am 110% over the heat. I don't want to have to sweat with every trip to class. I want to be in my comfortable, warm clothes; I feel so much more content with my life at this point.
2. Seeing kids dressed up in cute costumes.
As an upcoming SPED teacher, seeing children, in general, makes my day. This is only exceeded when they're dressed up. There's something about a little boy dressed as a cowboy or a little girl dressed like Minnie Mouse that just melts my heart. So even if the scary, gory part of Halloween isn't for you, the aspect for kids might be.
3. A larger variety of candy.
Beginning in, I'd say, late September, Walmart's candy supply seems to triple for the holiday season. Not only that, but candy you can only get in the fall season like candy corn becomes available. Some look forward to haunted houses and corn mazes, I look forward to the mega discounted candy the day after Halloween.
4. Yummy fall desserts/foods.
Whether it's pumpkin pie, apple crisp, or anything in-between, there is some food we all look forward to in the cooler months. One of the things I look forward to during the Halloween time is the pumpkin seeds my mom would roast for us after we carved pumpkins.
5. Sweaters and leggings are more appropriate to wear.
I don't know about you but I would live in leggings day in and day out if I had the choice. That being said, it's a bit harder to get away with when it is still reaching 80-90 degrees outside. By Halloween, it is pretty safe to say cooler weather is here to stay, in Virginia at least. I positively thrive in fall clothing so this time of the year is one of my favorites.
6. Hayrides and trips to the apple orchard.
There's nothing better than a trip to the apple orchard. Between the hot cider and hot apple dumplings and a nice hayride with family or friends, it's a great way to spend a fall day.
7. The slim chance of snow that lingers in your mind.
I may be the only one, but once fall is in full effect, I'm hoping and praying every day that it'll be cold enough for snow. Now that I'm on my college campus, I'm even more excited for the snowy weather because I know how beautiful my school will look.
