Halloween Candy Favorites!

A short list of Halloween candy favorites amongst my friends at UC Merced and how they compare to the US!

I decided to create a short list of the most popular Halloween candy favorites! I asked a few of my friends for their opinion and I compared it to national surveys, and they were pretty close! I gathered my friends’ responses and collected them into this short list, so be sure to check and see if any of your favorites are included!

Snickers

This was the absolute favorite from many of my friends and also across the US. I personally am not a major fan of anything with caramel, so Snickers are not really my go to candy. Consisting of caramel, peanuts, and chocolate, it’s basically the perfect candy for anybody with a sweet tooth! It’s one of the most popular candies passed out during Halloween, and it’s not hard to figure out why!

Reese’s

This is my personal favorite! Reese’s is the best chocolate candy ever created! I think it’s the fact that it’s filled with peanut butter that gets people so hooked on it, and I don’t blame them! This is also another top-seller Halloween candy and I actually bought a bag to pass out to trick or treaters! Hopefully there’s still some left over so I can one… or a few.

Twix

I was pretty surprised to find out that a lot of my friends like Twix. I personally haven’t eaten a Twix in a lot time, so it’s not a favorite of mine, but it also didn’t rank that high in terms of popularity across the United States. This candy consists of a cookie surrounded by caramel and chocolate. A lot of people tell me that they love caramel and chocolate combined, so I’m pretty surprised that it’s not as popular.

Kit Kat

These are also pretty popular during Halloween season, and I’m not surprised! I also bought a bag of these candies to pass out during Halloween, and I already promised my housemates that they can have the rest if there are any left over! Kit Kat’s are pretty simple, consisting of a wafer covered in chocolate. However, I think the fact that it’s so simple yet so delicious is what draw’s people in. I personally think Snickers are a bit extra, since you really don’t need a whole lot to get a good-tasting chocolate candy. So, if you like things simple, pick up a Kit Kat!

Sour Patch Kids

I’m a huge fan of sour candy, so I was a bit bummed to find that these were not very popular in the US in terms of Halloween favorites. They’re pretty sour and come in a variety of flavors, so they’re definitely not a “boring” candy. However, I think the reason they are not so popular is because chocolates seem to always be preferred over candy, which is something that I can’t really argue with since chocolate is pretty great!

Milky Way Candy

This chocolate is also not a super popular choice amongst the US, but they're still pretty darn good! The center is chocolate malt topped with caramel and covered in chocolate, so chocolate lovers are especially big fans of this candy! Despite it not being so popular, I feel like you can never go wrong with a milky way!

Did any of your favorites make the list? What are some of your favorite Halloween candies? Be sure to comment and let me know!

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
