5 Things Christians Say About Halloween That Are Wrong

Halloween is my favorite holiday. It always has been. It probably always will be. Yes, it is my favorite even over Christmas... I love dressing up, seeing little ones dressed up, drinking some pumpkin spice coffee and snuggling into a warm blanket. As a Christian, I am so fed up with hearing other Christians bashing the holiday. I am allowed to like this holiday just as much as you like others.

Here are 5 things I am tired of hearing from Christians when I say my favorite holiday is Halloween:

1. *Scoffs* It's Satan's holiday!!!

No. Just no. I don't worship Satan. I don't do witchcraft. I enjoy dressing up and going to a party where there's apple cider and you can bob for apples. I enjoy handing out candy to the little cuties in their costumes. And I especially enjoy "punny" costumes. And trick or treat is America's version of the Mexican holiday Day of the Dead. Wikipedia describes what the Day of the Dead is as, "The multi-day holiday focuses on gatherings of family and friends to pray for and remember friends and family members who have died, and help support their spiritual journey." It's not Satan's holiday. It was created to remember and honor the loved ones who have passed away.

2. You're going to go to hell.

Mmmh, since when does liking a certain holiday lead to eternity in hell. *Annnnddd, cue the bible verses out of context* Just because I like Halloween does not mean that I am summoning demons. I am not a Wiccan. I'm a Christian. I love Christ. I will defend His Holy name for eternity.

3. Some people summon demons and do witchcraft on Halloween.

I am sure they do. But they also do this every other day of the year, not just on Halloween. I have had my fair share of dealing with some spiritual warfare and I have seen demons cast out and I have felt the lurking feeling of evil. This does not only happen on October 31. It happens all the time. Spiritual warfare is a real thing. I don't watch many horror movies, to begin with, but I will NOT watch the ones that mess around with summoning demons. But I have no problem watching "Halloweentown."

4. People are lacing the candy with heroin and other drugs.

First, no. Second, do you know how much heroin costs? Way too much to be handing out for free. Drugs are not cheap. And if you have them you are either using them or you are selling them. You are not handing them out to little kids for free. So, check the candy for being open, sure. But it's not being laced with heroin.

5. You can't like Halloween more than Christmas or Easter!

Yes, I can. You know why? Because Christmas and Easter are not about the holiday, they're about the events that have happened. And I respect those events. I remember and celebrate them. But as far as how America has embellished them and how we celebrate, no thanks. I much prefer orange, purple and black over red and green. And I enjoy watching "Hocus Pocus" over "The Grinch."

So fellow Christians, I can like Halloween. I am not a Wiccan. I am not worshiping the devil. We need to stop focusing on the littles of the world dressing up as witches, and more on what the real problem is. We need to take a stance to fight against the evil realms. We need to get down on our needs and fight the good fight. We have to put on the full armor of God and proclaim the truth. We have to command the demons to flee in the name of Jesus. Stop fighting over a holiday where kids dress as dinosaurs and princesses and eat candy. That's not the point.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
