Dear Freshman me,
Two years from now you will be approaching the end of your sophomore year. You will be approaching the halfway point through your college career. You will have lost some friends from freshmen year and orientation week but have found your best friends in the process. You will fail a few classes and you will pass a few too. You will declare a major, join some clubs, and rush a Greek organization. You will drop some clubs, lose an executive position, and gain more leadership positions. Halfway through college you will have learned what failure is but also learn how to stand up after you fall.
Almost done with half your college career, you finally learn that is is okay to not know exactly what you want to do with your life. You will learn that exploring a thousand career options is sometimes okay for two years, but halfway through college you should really know what you're going to study. You will finally settle on a path and question yourself everyday, because that is part of growing up. Halfway through college you will finally understand what it means to start on the path to the rest of your life.
Halfway through college you will realize that you are not alone during those nights when you want to hide in your room and cry your eyes out. You are not alone when you have mental breakdowns and cannot function under the stress of college and life. After two years you finally realize that there are people around you that you can rely on to help get you through any hardship. Halfway through college you realize that a support system is necessary to stay healthy and on top of your game.
During sophomore year you find your true friends. You will figure out, for the most part, the type of relationships in your life that are healthy and which are not. Halfway through college you will do your best to purge these unhealthy people from your life. You will finally meet you're future bridesmaids who are there for you during a breakup. Some people will find their soulmate, others will still be looking. Halfway through college you will realize that it is okay to not have met your soulmate because you have great friends.
You now understand that one bad grade is not the end of the world. You will still hate getting a bad grade after pulling an all nighter studying for an exam. You learn to live with these failures and make the best of them. Halfway through college you realize that grades do not define you.
Halfway through college, you will have accomplished a lot. You know there's still a lot more to go, a lot more growth to be done. But that's okay, halfway through college means you have another half to keep learning and growing.
