9 Things That Happen When You Have Guy Friends

I've always been one of the few girls in my friend groups, and sometimes I'm the only one. While some girls that I've met would cringe of the thought of being left outnumbered by guys, I have grown comfortable with this idea. In fact, I find myself uncomfortable when I'm in a situation where the number of girls outnumbers guys.

For those of you girls out there who are like me, here is a list of a few things you probably relate to.

1. Once you get comfortable with each other, there are no boundaries.

Most boys are raised to be on their best behavior in front of girls, but once they realize you are just as chill as they are they show their true colors. Once you work your way into being "one of the guys," there is no going back. They'll stop straightening up their rooms, start referring to you as "dude" or "bro" and you will have to learn to accept them for not only their attitudes but their bodily odors and functions.

2. Somehow you always get sucked into their plans — even their horrible ones.

You start going wherever the crew goes. Suddenly you find yourself sitting through any (and every) sporting event on TV, you go for late night runs to get food and you become a witness/accessory to way too many frowned-upon or even illegal activities. You're now the one on the sidelines holding your breath and praying they won't get hurt or caught and your the first one to yell, "You guys are idiots!" when they do.

3. Suddenly, every guy not in the group is now a "douche" or a threat.

Guys can be just as judgmental and protective as girls are. They're easily intimidated by guys they don't know very well and because of this they tend to try and keep you from talking to outsiders. If they actually have a problem with the guy then expect to cause some tension if you become close with him. But, if it's simply an issue of whether or not they know him well enough or not, then try and get the guys to give him a chance. Just keep on your guard up in case the group's initial opinion was right. Sometimes they are, and they will be way too eager to remind you that they warned you in the first place.

4. You now fill every female role in their life.

You started out as a friend who was a girl but now you've taken on the roles of friend, sister and mother. You motivate them to get their shit together when they fall behind in class, you pick on them to cheer them up and you may even take care of them when their sick. At this point, you can't even count the number of times you've straightened up their rooms, helped with their laundry or cooked them ramen. You're the group's therapist as well because they don't want to show the other guys they have emotion. That means they all come to you when they need someone to listen.

5. Without your knowledge, you managed to become a love expert as well.

Maybe you are their wing-woman at a party or you give your opinion on a girl they have their eyes on. Either way you have now become their inside scoop on women. But don't worry, this isn't as scary as it seems. All they really look for is whether or not the girl gets your stamp of approval, just be sure to keep an open mind. Oh, and don't be surprised if you find yourself sucked into conversations about boobs or butts... It happens to the best of us, but nod your head and smile if you aren't comfortable contributing.

6. You're the brunt of most jokes.

You're probably the smallest and shortest, so naturally they're going to pick on you and tease you since you stick out like a sore thumb. You may be the easiest target for their jokes and teasing but they always do it out of love. Try dishing it back every now and prove you aren't such an oddball. And if it bugs you then tell them to just back off a little, they'll understand.

7. Everyone thinks you must be dating one of the guys.

Actually, this is probably one of the nicer rumors you will here, but we'll just say people can be mean. Maybe you are dating one of the guys, but if you aren't, then don't let the rumors bother you. Brush it off and continue on because it probably won't even phase the guys.

8. Sports and cars seem less like foreign languages.

Although I still don't understand football, I can hold a conversation about the Eagles without sounding like a complete idiot. I'm no expert, but hearing my guy friends go on and on about the games has taught me a few key things. As far as cars go, I still have a long way to go but I'm getting there.

9. For as much as they rub off on you, you will rub off on them too.

You'll find yourself acting more like a guy, but only in good ways really. Even though there may be more cursing in your vocabulary and you'll probably be more open about things like burping. Basically you're becoming a more laid back and confident person thanks to the guys accepting you. And when you walk into your guy friend's dorm and he's cleaning his room or folding his laundry the way you taught him, it will be a very proud day. Not all of them will surprise you like this, but the few who do will make you feel like the proudest person on earth.

Being raised in a big family with only guy cousins around my age and quickly making friends with guys in elementary school were two of the biggest blessings in my life. Although I blame them for my dreadful tomboy phase and the broken wrist that resulted from it, I wouldn't have it any other way. They taught me how to not be afraid of dirt, to stand up for myself and even brought out my motherly instincts in order to keep them all in one piece. My guy friends have proved to be some of my best ones and they're the ones I see sticking around for years to come; as long as I can keep them all alive in the meantime.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
