An Open Letter to My Guy Best Friends

My guys,

Let me start by saying, just a few years ago, I could have never imagined my life the way it is now. Although I loved high school, my four-year experience was missing one thing: boys. Don’t get me wrong, I made incredible girlfriends, and am very okay with the fact that the male gender in general missed out on some of the most gawky, awkward years of my life. However, I don’t know how I possibly survived all of that time without you.

I’d like to apologize for just a few things… I’m sorry for all the times I’ve taken you for granted. I’m sorry for the times I was grumpy, irritating, or overdramatic. I’m sorry for the sleep that you've missed sitting up and talking with me. I'm sorry for crying all over your shirts.

Now, I want to thank you. I know I don’t express my gratitude as often as I should. For years now, you have been my constants, my confidants, and my chosen family. You are my home away from home.

Thank you for helping me change the expired license plates on my car.

Thank you for sitting with me in the cafe even after you’ve finished eating.

Thank you for restaurant dates.

Thank you for killing bugs.

Thank you for lifting things that I can’t.

Thank you for driving when I don’t know where I’m going.

Thank you for taking me as I am.

Thank you for watching Disney movies with me.

Thank you for walks, runs, car rides, and adventures.

Thank you for listening when I complain.

Thank you for always cheering me up.

Thank you for reminding me of my blessings.

Thank you for bringing me closer to God.

Thank you for making life more fun.

Thank you for piggy-back rides.

Thank you for fighting for me.

Thank you for making me brave.

Thank you for life talks.

Thank you for understanding glances.

Thank you for irritating me beyond belief.

Thank you for buying me flowers.

Thank you for writing me notes.

Thank you for tolerating my excessive picture taking habit.

Thank you for coming running when I call at 12pm.

Thank you for always showing up.

Thank you for holding me when I cry.

Thank you for telling me to eat more junk food.

Thank you for telling me that he didn’t deserve me anyway.

Thank you for reminding me what I do deserve.

Thank you for telling me that I can do hard things.

Thank you for high fives and hugs.

Thank you for supporting me, for being proud of me, and for just being there unconditionally.

Thank you for everything that you do for me.

No matter where this life takes us, I want you to know how much you mean to me, and how much I will always cherish the gift of your friendship. I’m looking forward to the years to come, taking on the world together. I only wish that you could be my bridesmaids some day. ;)

Lysm forever and always, fam,

Jamie

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
