As a coffee snob and busy college student, good coffee is a must have. We have all had those days where we are so excited to get our morning or afternoon coffee and we get it and it's awful. That is probably my least favorite way to start a morning. Here is a guide to all coffee enthusiasts like myself to ensure that you are getting the best coffee you can find around here. As a New Englander I am a huge fan of iced coffee...year round. But if you are more of a hot coffee type of person I can assure you that all these places have just as amazing hot beverages as well. Here is a guide to the best places around town.
1. Breaking New Grounds, located at 50 Main St, Durham NH 03824.
BNG is not only a 4.5 star rated coffee shop in the center of downtown but it has the most amazing study vibes you can imagine. Whether you are in a rush to class or need to mix in a study mesh BNG is the perfect place to go. My favorite suggested drink from there is the gingerbread vanilla iced latte with almond milk but they have some crazy unique flavors to experiment with as well.
2. Higher Grounds, located at the food truck next to Hewitt Hall in Durham NH 03824.
This place is an absolute hidden treasure, one morning when I was walking back to my dorm freshman year from the gym I stopped here to get a coffee and it was amazing. It is right near the library so no matter where you are you can always grab a coffee from here between classes. My suggested drink here would be the turtle latte, its a mix of nuts and mocha flavors in a latte and it's absolute perfection.
3. The Coffee Station or as Durham residents know it as "The Hut", located at 1 Dame Rd, Newmarket, NH 03857.
The Hut is this little tiny red shack that has the most unique flavors imaginable. One of the best part about this cute little place is that the beans are actually infused with the flavors and there is no fake syrup involved. So if you are a health freak like me or just hate the way syrup tastes you will love this place. It is also not very expensive so that makes it perfect for the average broke college student. My suggested drink from here would be the hazelnut caramel iced coffee.
4. The Coffee Craving, located at 125 Calef Highway in Lee, NH 03861.
Sticking with the tiny shack vibe this place also has the most amazing coffee and donuts that I have ever had, if I had to recommend one place it would be here. There are so may flavors to try but for me I tend to stick to the same basic flavors but many people have told me that the thin mint cookie flavor from here is to die for. I would suggest a french vanilla iced coffee from here, or hot coffee, whatever floats your boat.
5. The Works Bakery Cafe, located at 5A Mill Rd, Durham NH.
I know it sounds weird that a bagel place has good coffees but the lattes here are absolutely life changing. When hungover and in need of an amazing breakfast sandwich and a coffee this is the place to go. The lattes here are surprisingly amazing. My recommended drink here would be the Gingerbread or Chai Tea Latte.
