It's summertime: the sun's warmth envelops you, the fresh breeze makes you feel like there is no better time of the year. School is out, and you are free; however, why spend your time embracing the beauty of nature when you can sit inside all day on your couch or in bed binge watching your new favorite television show?
Listen, it is okay. We have all been there before -- scrolling through Netflix's suggestions to find a new show to dive into, but struggling to actually enjoy one. Below are my favorite three shows, at the moment, which I highly recommend, so enjoy!
1. "Grey's Anatomy" (ABC).
I can vividly remember watching shows on ABC for years and seeing commercials for "Grey's Anatomy," never knowing how drastically my live would change when my best friend convinced me to watch this show. "Grey's" tells the story of Dr. Meredith Grey, her love life and relationships with her work colleagues/family at Seattle Grace Hospital, turned Seattle Grace Mercy West Hospital, turned Grey Sloan Memorial Hospital. While this general synopsis probably does not seem that enticing, the show is created by television legend Shonda Rhimes, so every episode is heartbreaking, jaw dropping, and intense (Rhimes is also behind "Scandal" and "How to Get Away With Murder"). The veteran series has become a cultural phenomenon, bringing stardom to many of its main characters and creating popular phrases such as one's "person" and "the carousel never stops turning."
"Anatomy" is now approaching its twelfth season, and after 10 years on air, countless surgeries, controversial actors/actresses, and plenty of fictional, yet personal, deaths, it is still a success.
2. "The Blacklist" (NBC).
"The Blacklist" is the newest addition to my list of shows that I have binge watched. During my struggle to find a new show, I attempted to just re-watch "Grey's Anatomy" until I found something new, and "Blacklist" is that new. For someone who enjoys mystery, murder and crime, or intense shows that leave you speechless, this is the show for you (in my opinion, the greatest show of all time). As a huge fan of both "24" and ABC's detective-thriller "Castle," this show is the perfect amalgam of the two. "The Blacklist" follows wanted criminal Raymond "Red" Reddington surrendering himself to the FBI and insists on working with profiler Elizabeth Keen to put away the most dangerous criminals in the world all compiled on a list known as, you guessed it, the Blacklist. I am currently toward the end of season one, but I already know this show is one of my favorites of all time.
3. "Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt" (Netflix).
"Unbreakable! They alive, dammit! It’s a miracle" will surely be stuck in your head for weeks to come if you choose this comedic masterpiece. "Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt" is a Netflix Original Series that premiered on March 6, 2015. Created by Tina Fey, "Unbreakable" follows the story and experiences of Kimmy Schmidt, a 29-year-old woman who was locked underground in a bunker for 15 years with three other women who were told that the world had ended. Following her rescue, Schmidt decides to leave her small hometown in Indiana for "The Big Apple" to start anew. Here, she meets her hilarious roommate and works for a wealthy family as a nanny. I am not one to typically enjoy comedy TV shows because nothing ever comes close to beating "Friends," but "Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt" has done a fantastic job of winning me over. Kimmy's daily struggles to fit into today's society, combined with the well-timed humor placed remarkably well throughout the course of each episode, make this show a pleasure to watch. For the record, each episode is around 25 minutes long with only 13 episodes on Netflix to date, so pace yourself!
