Homecoming is a naturally a huge deal. Orange and green line
everything and you see much more school spirit than you could ever expect.
Being in Greek life tends to get you pretty close to all of the events since it gives you an organization to cheer on but it can also get you caught up in winning points rather than enjoying the celebrations. This is a guide for all of you who have never experienced the most spirited time of the year and want to bleed orange and green.
Homecoming Concert. Everyone loves to hate on the concert picked every year no matter who is playing. People, it’s a free concert. Get your butts over there and have an awesome time. I promise it won’t interfere with going to the Grove and you’ll be out of there before your Thursday night pregame even begins.
8pm at the Bank United Center on Thursday October 30th
Hurricane Howl. All of this excitement makes everyone hungry so don’t forget to stop by the food trucks before you head out! There are always so many options to choose from anyone can find something to suit their palate.
6:30pm at Stanford Circle on Friday October 31st
Parade. Get there early for a good seat because all those organizations who created floats put a lot of effort into them and it’s always cool to see what they came up with! You don’t want to miss the boat burning anyways and watching the parade will put you in a prime location to get to a good spot for that.
7pm on Merrick Drive on Friday October 31st
Boat Burning and Fireworks. This is easily the best part about homecoming. With the entire school and alumni surrounding the lake there is no other time in the year where you get this sense of community. Everyone huddles together and watches the fireworks while waiting for the annual boat burning. Remember, if the mast falls before the boat sinks we’ll beat UNC!
8:30pm on Lake Osceola on Friday October 31st
Football Game vs. UNC. Everyone is excited for this game and if you’re not you need to get on board. We’re pumped up from our win over Virginia Tech and ready for another beautiful W to add to our schedule. Even if you don’t like football you’re missing out if you don’t make it to tailgating. With the excitement for the game in the air, you know those tailgates will not be calm. Make sure you eat a hearty breakfast before you leave though, we all know what those noon games in Miami can do to you no matter how careful you are with alcohol.
12:30pm at Sun Life Stadium on Saturday November 1st
So get excited and show off your favorite colors this week because it’s great to be a Miami Hurricane!
