Growing Up As A Twin

The things twins experience every day

Growing Up As A Twin

There is nothing quite like being a twin. While many people have siblings, not nearly as many have grown up with another sibling who is your exact age and has your same birthday. I am blessed to be really close to my twin sister and we have experienced a lot of things as twins over the years. Whether you are identical or fraternal, same gender or opposite gender, there are just some things all twins can relate to. Here are some of the things that twins experience while growing up together.

1. Matching outfits

Most twins inevitably end up in the same exact outfits, even if they are different colors. When shopping for twins, people will pick up two of the same outfit so that the twins can match even more and that cute photos can be taken. It is just what is easiest for parents.

2. People mixing up your names

Even if you are fraternal twins, people will still accidentally call you by your twin's name. I've learned to respond to both names.

3. Getting asked a lot of questions about being a twin

Part of being a twin is getting asked by a lot of other people what being a twin is like. People are always intrigued what it is like to be multiple. We constantly get asked if we are fraternal, if we can read each other's minds, if we have everything in common, etc.

4. Sharing everything

Siblings in general always end up sharing, but it is multiplied by 100 times for twins. We shared birthday parties, toys, friends, a bedroom, and even a car. You learn to get used to having to share with another person and appreciating what you have. Sometimes you could convince your parents to get two of everything to save the trouble.

5. Getting compared to your twin

This is another thing people will talk about if you are a twin. People will always talk about your personality differences and who is better at what. Typically, you and your twin get used to this.

6. Most importantly, having a built-in best friend

Having a twin automatically gives you the chance to have a life long best friend. You understand each other better than anyone else can because you lead similar lives, have the same family and some friends, and you are there to see all that life throws at one another. As a twin, you always have someone to hang out with, laugh with, and just have fun. You are always together so you can feel totally comfortable around them.

Being a twin has been one of my greatest blessings in life. It has taught me to share, be understanding, love, and be the best friend and twin that I can be. I would not trade being a twin for anything in the world.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
