Greek of the Week: Meet Emily Ewing

Emily Ewing, a senior psych major, is also a founding sister of Alpha Gamma Delta! Emily is a brilliant, driven and beautiful girl, and not to mention, an incredible sister! I had the opportunity to ask her a few questions about herself, so get to know Emily!

What do you hope to do with your psychology degree?

I eventually want to get my Ph.D. in clinical psychology. I want to be able to improve the quality of mental health care for people of all ages experiencing some type of brain or mental disorder. I really hope to be able to change peoples' lives.

What are your plans after you graduate?

I'm graduating this May. My goal is to get into the Ph.D. program here at San Diego State so I can continue my studies for the next five to seven years. Once I finally finish, I would really love to open my own practice; I want to eventually become a psychology professor. It's hard to say, though, because who knows what is going to happen after that much time?

What made you decide to go Greek?

I really wanted to be a part of something in college that I could look back on and be proud of. Becoming Greek has a little bit of everything that I was looking for: making a difference in the community, cultivating unforgettable memories, becoming the best version of myself, and inspiring others and creating beautiful bonds with other amazing women."

What is your favorite part about being an Alpha Gam?

That is such a tough question to answer because there have been so many amazing moments. I'd say my favorite part about being an Alpha Gam, would have to be finally meeting and establishing an amazing sisterhood with a group of women that are just as weird and goofy as I am. Not only that, but the fact that we all accept each other for it. Being around people that accept you for all that you are is something to be cherished because it really is so hard to find these days.

Are you involved with anything else on campus?

Yeah! I'm a part of the Phi Kappa Phi honors society. I'm also an advisor at the psychology undergraduate advising office. I've also been a part of several internships on campus as well. I think it is so important to get involved with other organizations and groups on campus outside of Greek life, in order to expand your networking opportunities and to become an overall more well-rounded person.

If you could go on your dream date with your celebrity crush, who would it be and where would you go?

Haha, that's a tough one! Definitely Chris Hemsworth! We would probably go hiking or do anything active and outdoorsy -- anything to get his shirt off!

Keep an eye out for Ewing around campus! If you would like to suggest one of your brothers or sisters to be the next Greek of the Week, email me at jordanrose527@gmail.com

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
